    Price of honey

I heard recently that the bulk bucket price was in the range £2.60 - £3.20 per lb, so I can easily see that the beefarmer might be satisfied with what they are getting. Maddydog makes a good point above.

    Abelo metal adjustable stand

I have 5 of them, all with 2440mm length wood. I have one national hive width overhang on each side which gives room for two nationals between supports. In one apiary I have squeezed 6 x 6 frame nucs but some of these have top feeders rather than the Paynes style side feeder. In summer 2021 I...

"Survivor bees" found in Blenheim Forest

For a few years up until about 2002 he was head rowing coach at Winchester College, he now works with Oxford University Boat Club as their physiologist. I think his background was as a professional cyclist. AFAIK at OUBC he helps monitor the physiological effect of training on the rowers...

    Heather 2022! Extraction advice

When you look at the different specifications/build quality, what is it that puts Logar ahead of Abelo and Konigin? Thickness of the stainless steel?, weld quality (how does a non-expert judge?)?

    Wellies.

Timely thread as I have been using these all summer, OK when it's dry but not much fun when it's damp or an inquisitive bee finds a way in. Following the advice here I've gone for the Dunlop purofots. Certainly feel a lot warmer, hopefully they'll last.

why the extra step in soft set?

There are many ways to achieve soft set honey. Find one that works for you and use that one is my advice, refining as necessary as you gain experience or learn of other methods. What works for me with the honey, seed, creaming device, time and ambient storage temperature I have might not suit...

That's the end of the wasps.

Topped up some feeders this morning in the rain and the only thing flying was wasps. Hadn't noticed them before at the apiary. My shed at home full of wet supers is a very different story, worst year for wasps until this week when they seem to have disappeared.

Thanks for posting with more details

    Your highlights of the season.

Selling half of my 2021 harvest in bulk without advertising; jar sales stabilising at a level that I can supply.

    (Cheap) gas torches

If you use cheap gas torches for lighting your smoker or vaping OA, there is a series of salutary posts from Sheffield Honey on Twitter. It's this post and the ones following

    Heather 2021

He was an academic at various New York state universities so I guess he lived in NY state also. If you still have copies of his book(s), a quick google suggests you should be able to recoup your £7. It's several years since I read any of his books but if I recall correctly the quality of...

    Maisie's Sale

I normally spread my acquisitions over autumn sales and Beetradex. If you are similar, you might want to check your favoured supplier is attending. AFAIK Maisemore will not be there so I will need to get all I need in the forthcoming sale.

    Plastic shavings

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has had this happen. 10 days is enough time to gently heat without melting, filter and jar IMHO. I no longer use my paddle stirrer, mainly for this reason.

What have you had under your roof?

I've had one apiary which for a couple of winters seemed to be a ladybird sanctuary. Infested from late October, all gone by early April.

    Storing supers for winter

It's a strain of Bacillus thuringiensis, this bacteria produces a toxin (Bt toxin) that harms cabbage white caterpillars on Brassicas. Fortunately it's also effective against wax moth.

    Sieve stand

Carl Fritz also do some elegant double honey tap tank strainers. Too complex to link to by phone :(

    Sieve stand

I find it easier to put a strainer on top of a settling tank. I transfer by bucket from the extractor to the strainer and 12-24 hours later transfer to a 30lb bucket from the tank. I fine filter using a conical nylon strainer before jarring
