    New Import rules

Is there an equivalent website for the Republic Of Ireland with similar Import Information? Is there a breakdown of, from which countries these bees are coming in from, etc. or where/who do I contact to get this info.? What about Export Information, for the UK and the Republic Of Ireland ...

    New Import rules

A small group of us here in NI have been rearing our own Queens, it is not easy, nor cheap, and it is a lot of hassle, this morning I spent 2 hours on Queen Rearing related stuff, even in a ventilated suit I'm exhausted! This year I was told by a very experienced beek that many people (in...

An odd one: VQ + LW

The soonest I've had an entire Hive turn Laying Worker is 4 1/2 days (there were no eggs in the hive and only 1 1/2 day old larvae), last inspection was 5 days before! I seem to recall Ruttner and / or Adams making reference to the M lineage going Laying Worker much sooner than other types of...

    Incubator probems

I'm guessing the number of empty and dead cells are in the very low percentages, of the top of your head, do you know how much? I've noticed this year multiple Queen Cells not emerging, 15% isn't uncommon, previously it would have been 5% (1 in 20), as I use two frame mating nucs and put a 14...

    Banana test

Your right Veridens they love banana! I give my hives a few slices of banana when I'm making nucs, they love them!

    Nicot problems

My understanding with the Nicot system was that the Beek was to release the Queen after she had laid up the Cell Cups (say the next day) and then wait for three days for the eggs to hatch so that you have larvae of 1 to 24 hours old, these are then placed onto a Queen Rearing Frame. HOWEVER...

Asian Hornet (one!) found in Eire

Nothing to worry about then, ... err ... isn't that how it started in France,... suddenly I'm glad that we're having terrible weather - I mean have terrible weather!

Striving for racial purity in bees a pointless, counter productive, seriously bad idea?

That article uses a Map (Fig. 1) which is now VERY outdated: Just to satisfy my curiosity, does anyone know from where the author has obtained that map, at first I thought a book, but it doesn't look like a scan, so maybe a website - that would hopefully give me the origin of his claims... he...

    EurBest presentations

I believe it is; visitor & eurobest You're right, there is loads of good stuff on here! Thanks.

    EurBest presentations

That is VERY impressive, and I am very envious! I react EXTREMELY badly to bee stings!!! I recall seeing the results of a Survey here in Ireland amongst beeks, in what did they want their bees to have the most, Docileness came out on top by far! I think non-swarmyness was second?

Queen discs - that glow in the dark!

This company may be a good alternative (I got tired of using GoogleTranslater on the other German sites, only to find they don't ship at the Check Out), https://www.beekeeping-equipment.com/queen/queen-marking-kit-en.html

Queen discs - that glow in the dark!

Ireland has been removed as well! .... Apparently the entire island is out! I've been back and forth with them and they DO NOT send to the UK ...and Northern Ireland !

Queen discs - that glow in the dark!

Yes, that's what I'm looking for, not only bright coloured but also numbered, ahh this is going to make life so much easier! Thanks.

Queen discs - that glow in the dark!

we're in the wrong business my friend :-))

Queen discs - that glow in the dark!

Ok, maybe they don't actually glow in the dark, but I swear, years ago I was at an apiary and the beek had glued (or maybe he bought in a queen) a 'red' disc onto the Queen, well is was more of an Orange colour, BUT whenever I looked down between the frames I could actually see the fluorescent...

    Aspiring to success?

Anyone harvested propolis? I didn't know you spun it??? I thought you place a sheet of fine mesh where the Dummy Board goes (Nationals have a space for a Dummy Board), and then you take it out at the end of the year, pop it in the freezer, then bend the plastic (type) mesh and it cracks / pops off?

    Aspiring to success?

What does it mean by "spinning resin", ... propolis, but you don't spin it? Or.... "We got two twin tubs from an auction, one for spinning honey and one for spinning resin"

    A bit more improvement needed.

When I have heard beekeepers talk of the "Temperament" of their bees they are usually referring to the Aggression / Docileness levels; I'm assuming that is NOT what you are referring to here... because Aggressiveness (or lack of) is the easiest trait to assess for.

    Welsh mead from 78-1200AD?

The accounts in, for example, "Laws of Hywel Dda" would establish mead's production later (first written down in the 10th century but based on oral laws etc. handed down through generations) but do we have any accounts in or very close to the times of the Romans, say mid 1st to 4th century?

    Welsh mead from 78-1200AD?

A newspaper article stated (in quotation marks no less), that mead was the "chief alcoholic drink of the Welsh nation from Roman times until at least 1200AD" does anyone know of a source for this claim, surely it can't be true, wouldn't beer be cheaper and more easily available to the masses? I...
