    Forage Range

Our Association had an interesting talk from a ondon based beekeeper and scientist. He had observed his bees bringing in Himalayan Balsam. The nearest source was 8 miles away!!!

Viable excuses to your better half for buying more kit ?

When I was working I used to have it delivered to the Post Room at the office. They would even come and collect the car keys to put it in the car for me. A couple of jars of honey each year kept them very sweet.

Viable excuses to your better half for buying more kit ?

SWMBO moans a little when new stuff arrives. After I pointed out that I only waste money on my bees and not on wine, women and song she shrugs and gives up. As George best said: 'I have spent my money on wine. women and song. The rest I wasted!!!'

What did you do in the Apiary today?

My Bee Buddy and I went on a queen hunt today. I had lost 3 hives unexpectedly. They had seemed OK 3 weeks ago. I have another 5 hives in this apiary from queens bred last year. I opened the first. Poly 14X12. It was brimming with bees and BIAS on both sides of 7 frames. They were in a nasty...

    Midsomers murders

I recorded the Midsomer Murders and watched it last night. I have never seen so much 'codswallop' in my life. SWMBO now believes I am making a secret fortune from beekeeping and knows I am lying when I tell her stings are good for her health! On the plus side I can now dissappear for whole...

    Hornet

You would not be as keen on a hot Sunday morning, sweat pouring down your face, glasses fallen into your hood, trying to collect a spare crown board and not having a clue they were there!! It is quite a fright Dani!!!

    Midsomer Murders.....I will be suing!

Dani Midsomer is the fictional County. Filming an episode in the village a few years ago my wife had a phone call from the production team. I was area swarm officer at the time and out collecting a swarm. Knowing the filming was going on that evening SWMBO thought it was a friend on a 'wind up...

    Midsomer Murders.....I will be suing!

I live in Haddenham, a village that has appeared in many Midsommer Murders. Every summer we have a procession of coaches doing the Midsommer Tour often filled with Germans who like the series. A member of the film crew asked an irrascible old landlord in my local what he thought of trade that...

Just for some fun.... an excuse to smile.

This should be displayed amongst the cheap imported stuff, sold as 'honey', in certain supermarkets!!!!!

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Yes I chose it carefully. I buy masonry paint from a local Dulux centre where they can mix any one of hundreds of colours. For the TherapBee project we have red, white and blue hives, very patriotic. I have light blue and brick red NUC boxes and their extensions. The poly boxes for these supers...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

I bought 5 poly supers in the Maisies sale on Friday. They were delivered today. I took them over to the TherapBee workshop to assemble and give them their first coat of paint. he venue had the added advantage of getting away from SWMBO for a couple of hours

    Timber for hives

I have used WRC, exterior ply and pallets for building hives. Wrc is by far the best. Pallets painted with Salodin type wood preservative last very well. Exterior ply similarly treated last between 8 and 10 years. WRC is also the lightest and 14x12 brood boxes made of ply can be heavy. A...

Varroa becoming a reportable disease in Scotland

I believe compulsory registration to be a good idea. It would benefit us all. I have had to deal with a 'Fanny Fleabuckle' in one of my apiaries who believed some rubbish on social media that varroa treatments drove bees mad! I kid you not! The Regional Bee Inspector advised me, in her presence...

I know SWMBO uses WhatsApp to keep in touch with our Great Niece Twins in Wales but I only use this forum.

    Adulterated Honey

Did anyone read the article in yesterdays Daily Mail. I found it very enlightening. We all know that cheap honey is adulterated with syrups etc and then sold in our supermarkets at ridiculous prices. The article points out that more Manuka Honey is sold than produced and also that the number of...
