What did you do in the Apiary today?

Assisted my BeeBuddy Debbie in adding a second 14x12 brood box to an extremely large colony in a WBC. Colony was already on 14x12 brood and one super. Came home to check the 'Cottage Hive' . This has 3 boxes of 8 national frames and has been lively for weeks. 16 frames of brood and 8 of liquid...

It is only 6ft 8ft but the beauty is it is nearly 7 feet tall at the eaves. This means I can stack14x12 brood boxes 6 high with no problems. 1 row at the back with take 4 stacks of brood or super boxes.

    Queen Introduction

I have always removed the attendant bees when introducing a queen to a new NUC. I was party to a discussion the other day that a beekeeper said that he never removed the attendants. Others said they did. I then read that it was always advisable to remove attendants and in another publication it...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I have been working very hard over several weeks dodging eye surgery appointments and rain showers to dismantle and re-erect a shed. Rodent damage

My Issue at present is the squirrels. In the Autumn of 2021 I trapped and/or shot 17 in 12 days. My friend 200m away did the same and probably killed more. WE had relatively few last year but this morning I had 6 in my garden. I have only removed five since Christmas as I have been having issues...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I have spent the last two days dismantling my 'new' seondhand shed for the apiary. I will have to replace the roof and a couple of boards at the bottom of one side. Today I go shopping for roofing felt and some shiplap boards and one or two other pieces of timber. Sunday my friend is bringing...

Friday I helped my bee buddy and her husband move 12 hives from their recently sold home to a farm site 3 miles away. All the hives except one are WBC with 14x12 brood boxes and at least one super. The last one is a National. We double strapped each one and loaded them on to Chris's flatbed...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Hi Elaine MaryI had a similar experience with Christmas cards but the worst thing was a Sapphire wedding card for my wife. Went on Etsy for the first time and ordered a hand made personalised card. Received a notification within 24 hrs that the courier had it and a tracking number. 3 weeks later...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I trickled all my hives and the charity hives yesterday. I wanted to do this before Christmas. I ordered the Api-Bioxal in late November and 'basked' in the 2 weeks of cold weather knowing that all the mites would be phoretic as there would be no brood. Cold weather ends but no Api-Bioxal...

    Wallabies!

As a teenager my local farmer had a second farm at Dagnall near Whipsnade. Sat on the tractor following the combine I saw wallabies everyday. At the time it appeared that they were able to come and go from the zoo as they pleased. (Prisoners on Day Release???)

    Birds eating my bees.

I watched a colony of swallows take a queen returning from mating at a colleagues apiary on her farm. I would love to see more swallows around but I wish they would ignore the queens.
