    Honey on 'country'file

I must say I liked the idea as well. Let me loose in supermarkets full of cheap honey and give me a direct line to Trading Standards!!!!!!!!!

    Beehive Bits

Has anyone used Beehive Bits lately? I have always used them for mesh for floors and galvanised roof covers. Their website no longer shows these as being available and efforts to contact by e-mail and phone have been in vain. Can anyone help, please?

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

My elderly neighbour and I planed the edges of 30 plus lengths of WRC. We then cut a groove in 12 pieces and joined them using a plywood fillet and expanding glue. They are clamped together for the glue to dry. We will sort out some more tomorrow.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Just returned from moving a friends 5 occupied WBC hives. We lifted them onto a flatbed truck and off at the new site. Predicatably the hive with attitude sent out half a dozen to inspect us.

    Stainless steel fixings

I went to Westfield Fasteners yesterday. They have a base nearby in the hamlet of Westfield near Long Crendon!! They were most helpful but siad I should order online not just turn up. A young lady came and took my order and it was made up and brought to me as I waited in the car. Good price and...

    Jig Plans

Hi Neil Thanks for the picture. I just wanted to confirm my initial thoughts for making one myself. Why re-invent the wheel? I make all my own boxes and for others but noticed that last year several were slightly out of square. It could be my eyes or just getting old!! I thought I would seek...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

The WRC is not normally seasoned and I usually leave it for 3months before use. The latest batch seems very good. I think with a run through the planer it eill be OK to work with. I have found if it is too dry it can be a little brittle. I bought some locally a few years ago, in an emergency...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

I have been doing it for years. Takes about 2 hours each way and it is the nearest sawmill that does WRC. I took SWMBO with me and bought her lunch. That was the disappointing bit. The Usk garden centre has been done up, prices gone up but I thought the food was not as good as before. The WRC is...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

It should be what do I need to do in the workshop today. Yesterday I drove down to USK and picked up 70 @130mmX20mm rough saen WRC planks to make new supers and a few brood boxes. While I was waiting a few weeks for my order to be prepared I succumbed to temptstion and bought 10 3 grade...

    BBKA membership

Let me clear up a couple of misunderstandings. I belong to my local MBBKA and that gives me BBKA membership and Public Liability Insurance. My Local Association does not take part in the Bee Disease Insurance. It costs extra for more than 3 hives and they don't want the paperwork and collection...

Problem with (I think) mining bees?

Was asked to look at a bees nest on Monday. SWBO had taken the call and pointed out that it is a) probably too late for bumble bees, b)rarely do we have honey bee nests in the ground c) most likely wasps. All my gear on I turned up at an elderly customers house. They were bees! Mining bees were...

    BBKA membership

Join purely for the insurance. The BBKA Public Liability Insurance is worth the £30 I pay for membership of my local association and the BBKA combined. I also enjoy turning up a couple of times a year to stir up the '2 hive' experts!!!!

    Asian Hornets

Facebook yesterday: Asian Hornet spotted in Chinnor Oxfordshire. This was forwarded to me by another beek. There was also a picture of an Asian Hornet. I did a little research this morning. I don't use Facebook but understand that many do. I contacted the Care Home where the hornet was spotted...

    Extremely aggressive bees. Help needed

I agree with JBM. I would be very wary of opening any hive with these levels of humidity and heat. Leave them alone.Add some feed when it is cooler or raining and let them sort themselves out for the winter. They may well be a different proposition come spring!!

    Asian Hornets

My neighbour gave me a cutting from a Daily Express about Asain Hornets yesterday. The content was similar to the Telegraph earlier in the week and once again showed a picture of a European Hornet labeled as an Asain Hornet. I e-mailed them pointing out this stupid error but have not yet...

    Asian Hornets...

I contacted the telegraph yesterday about their incorrect photo. They got back to me saying thay had changed the photo in the on-line edition and asked me to confirm it was indeedVV. This I did and sent them a copy of the NNSS identification chart. They thanked me and said they would ensure the...
