Keeping bees in for a day

That grey pipe insultation cut to size is flexible enough and readily available. Piece of Duct tape adds extra security.

    AS on strong hive

That't what I've found. One of the downsides of Wally Shaw's Modified Snellgrove II when near neighbours and same goes for taking the queen out into a nuc.

    Swarm control

Ive not had much success breeding from my bought in Buckfasts. Open mating gives poor results compared to sticking with my local strain.

    oz armour suit

Thanks. Was checking out an Italian company Quarti who claim to buy in from OZ Armour from Australia and re-label with their own name. Looks like the genuine article as it's also Made in Pakinstan.

    Swarm control

Despite all the hype that it was going to be a swarmy year Ive only had to deal with swarm cells in 10% of my colonies. Only another week or so to go before the Hawthorne's over which usually marks the end of my 'main' swarm period. Not had a single call so far to collect a swarm! How are others...

    which correx nuc

Best I've come across. Takes 1-2 minutes to assemble with integrates roof. Everything is spot on. Bought 50 and no regrets. They are water proof and the bees can happily stay in them for some time. Must be kept out of the sun.

    Aggressive Bees!

I look to breed from colonies that remain calm when those around them are tetchy especially when climatic conditions are not ideal. It's not a coincidence that those that are troubled by tetchy bees tend to be those who keep them in the garden. My tetchy out-apiary colones don't bother me, or...

    Supercedure in April?

Why don't you stick with double brood nationals during the season then get them onto single brood going into winter. You can the see how they perform come spring. Keep that second brood box handy to use if needed.

    Snelgrove

Here's an excellent PDF by Whally Shaw which summarises Snellgrove's original paper. http://www.wbka.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/The-Many-Uses-Of-A-Snelgrove-Board-by-Wally-Shaw.pdf

    Swarm control/very busy hive

Sound like you queen needs double rather than single brood. Also keep those empty supers going on.

    Honey In Brood Box

My bees need nectar/sugar coming in to draw foundation. Wish mine would use old overwintered stores- if they did I wouldn’t have to remove so many frames.
