What did you do in the Apiary today?

I’ve had the same happen, 3 green marked Queen’s have gone AWOL over the last 2 weeks. Like you I'm unsure why this has happened, plenty of laying space, stores and no sign of Queen cells being built prior to their disappearance! It’s very disappointing ☹️

Why do 7-day inspections work - when they do?

I can identify with that Nannysbees, I had a new Queen scheduled for delivery on Saturday, was messaged by Royal Mail saying she had been sent to Leeds in error! Fortunately they brought her yesterday afternoon and she looked fine so I got her introduced to the colony. I contacted Laurence from...

    What is going on!!!

Great, thanks for advice. I will go in to the nuc at the weekend and take down any emergency cell’s then wait until they are hopelessly queenless, then unite 🤞

    What is going on!!!

Thank you for such a detailed reply, I appreciate it. I thought/hoped I had gauged brood space needed by adding a second dummied down brood box on the 1st May when the existing brood box had 80% of capped brood. I gave more foundation as the brood nest expanded, then added a super on 11th May...

    What is going on!!!

Thanks for your reply. My reason for the split Thanks for your reply. My plan is to re Queen the mother hive with a calmer and perhaps less swarmy Queen. This one descends from a line of swarmy Queens and I wanted to move away from that. Plan: Nuc her (for insurance purposes) knock down Queen...

    What is going on!!!

5 day’s ago I split a large colony put the Queen (2023 model) into the Nuc with brood, food and a mix of new and drawn foundation. New Queen arriving at the weekend for the mother hive. 2 day’s later I could see the bee’s trying to squash the Queen out of the Nuc entrance, thought they were...

    Queen balled - perplexed

I did a split 4 days ago moving the Queen from the mother hive into a nuc with brood, food, foundation and some shakes of bees. Today they look like they are trying to break her out of the nuc, not gently either 🤦‍♀️. I’m thinking that they are wanting to swarm with her, although I wouldn’t be...

Queen introduction, supers off to put feed on?

I think moving forwards I need to get to grips with doing some demaree’s. Just a bit nervous about getting to grips with it 🤦‍♀️

Queen introduction, supers off to put feed on?

The existing Queen is one from a Queen cell last year her mother was from a swarm given to me by someone who was giving up beekeeping 🤔. I know all bee’s will swarm if left to their own devices, but I think this particular genetic line have become diluted and more swarm oriented ?if there is...

Queen introduction, supers off to put feed on?

I have just split a double brood colony that has 2 supers on, one in the process of being capped. The Queen has gone into a nuc with brood, food foundation 4 shakes of bees and 1:1 syrup to get them going. I have a new Queen coming in 8 days. I have put a clearer frame on the original hive with...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Yes there was BIAS, I dispatched the old Queen and put the cage with the new Queen in straight away, damn it 🤦‍♀️. Do you think I should give them until the end of this week and have another look? Knock down any cells to make them hopelessly Queenless and order another Queen? I was wanting to...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Inspected all 6 colonies today, gloriously sunny day bee’s were very active and piling in pollen and nectar. Supers on 4 and will put one on 5th probably at end of next week as I recently promoted it to double brood. Have re queened 2 colonies over the past couple of weeks. First one accepted...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Yes, I’m estimating that it will be another couple of weeks until any of the new Queen’s offspring emerge. So I was thinking that a frame of capped brood would give them a buffer to keep the numbers up.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Yeah I was thinking after taking it out that I should have left it 🤦‍♀️. Do you think I should give them another one?
