    Laying workers?

Yeah I realise that bee’s fly in order to take a comfort break, but the question is how far away is the toilet 🚽 I don’t go to the upstairs facilities if I can use the one’s downstairs 🤣. Seriously though, what beekeeping publications are out there that have any credibility or are they just...

    Laying workers?

Wow really. I would be interested to read the literature about that if you have any links/references? please

    Laying workers?

That’s what I have read. Which suggested that the LW are predominantly house bee’s that if shaken out a distance from the hive will be unable to return as they haven’t been outside and have not oriented. So they will basically be lost in what will be a wilderness to them. It makes sense that...

    Laying workers?

That sounds interesting, I’m tempted to give it a go. Can’t see that there will be much to lose. Going to get my 2 new Queens introduced then give it a go 👍

    Laying workers?

Interesting idea 🤔 it might be worth a try. I do have a couple of Q+ nuc’s so can’t think there would be anything to lose in putting one of them over the LW colony. Has anyone tried this?

    Laying workers?

I wonder how these falsities get published? Obviously not a peer reviewed publication. Not too disappointed as I wasn’t looking forward to moving them 50 yards to shake them out 😂

    Laying workers?

    Thanks I will do

    Laying workers?

Wow 😮 that’s amazing, nature with a little help from the beekeeper wins through 😂

    Laying workers?

👍. I have 2 hopelessly Queenless hives with Queen’s arriving on Friday, thinking i will wait until I’ve got them introduced before shaking LW hive out?

    Laying workers?

    Okay that makes sense, thanks

    Laying workers?

I read somewhere, I think it was The Apiarist that the LW are often unable to fly back to the hive due to the egg burden they are carrying.

    Laying workers?

Thank you for your advice, it’s a good sunny day here today and there is a flow on so I’ll get the job done. If I leave there original hive in situ and close up the entrance will that be ok, or do I need to deconstruct the hive?

    Laying workers?

Thanks Michael, I’m beyond disappointed ☹️ but it’s a learning curve. Do you think that if I shake the bee’s out a good distance from the hive that the LW’s will not make it back and I could put some young brood and eggs from another hive and they might create a Q cell? Just grasping at straws 😬

    Laying workers?

Yes exactly, a dump of eggs in a small Queen cup. What would you do with them now? any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, feeling out of my depth with this colony 🤦‍♀️

    Laying workers?

How long did it take for your multiple egg laying Queen to settle down?

    Laying workers?

Yeah I think you’re right to suggest a really careful look through the BB’s. I’ve been searching for a marked Queen, but need to start looking for a younger Queen. Gosh it’s a well populated hive so might be a challenge, I’ll maybe resort to shaking them through a Q excluder or would that be a...

    Laying workers?

Thank’s James, yes I wondered about the eggs at the bottom of the cells. I’m hopeful that it is a newly mated Queen starting to lay. I last saw the original Queen on 23rd June and there was a good amount of BIAS at every inspection until 17th July. Haven’t seen any eggs since then, until today...

    Laying workers?

During inspection today found these in one of the hives 😳that I suspected was Q- I have put a test frame in, but just wanted advice, do you think there are laying workers in the hive?

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I do give the brood frames a shake after I have had an initial look over the frames for Queen. I can’t say I shake every bee off, but I do think I get a fairly decent view of the frames. During swarm season do other beekeepers shake the bees off every frame in their BB’s at every inspection? 🧐

What did you do in the Apiary today?

All the colonies are inspected every 7 day’s. Caught sight of 2 of the Queen’s, all looked good with no Qcells seen. 7 day’s later there were a number of very small capped cells and no Queens, colonies have likely swarmed but I’m shocked at the lack of visible preparations 7 day’s before. The...
