    Electrickery Jedi

I need a transformer type set up to use as my wire embedder and was wondering if there is a cheaper way to buy/make one than pay the 40 odd quid one bee eqpt supplier currently has on sale for. As I know nothing about the dark arts of volts amps etc can anyone recommend a suitable and cheap...

    Poor Queens

I agree with Murray, I need queens in the spring and can't get them locally. I think Pete Little summed it up in his interview with Steve Donoghue when he said "There's a total difference between being a queen producer and a queen breeder". Now before you get yer knickers in a knot, I'm...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Yes and no Basically a wazzer zig zags leaving the nest hunting for food. The return flight is in a straight line back to the nest. Yopu just watch the wazzer til you can't see it no more walk to that point and wait til the next one comes along

The "Hot Air" Solar Wax Melter/Extractor DIY

Can't remember which one of the wax exchange companies it was but I was told they got fiddled when someone exchanged large blocks of wax with bricks in the middle!! Since then I turn it into small blocks etc that you can't hide a brick in.

    2.5g of oxalic acid?

Won't be listening to him then.

    Plastic heather honey loosener

My 2 cents worth, grossly overpriced. If you look at Randall Carter's yootube he uses a more robust [possibly] american version of a similar contraption but not on heather honey. Surely someone can advise or help with telling you how to manage heather honey and getting it out of the combs...

    2.5g of oxalic acid?

Interestingly, Other respected scientists in this field say more treatments at shorter intervals to maximise impact over the brood cycle of bees, noting of course when you do your treatment, the method used and the changes to our climate that risks no brood break is the most effective.

The "Hot Air" Solar Wax Melter/Extractor DIY

Is it me or has the cost of new wax comb gone up and yet the beek trade in rate has not changed?

    Honey price

Its a race to the bottom for the sellers of the price to make more profit and Its all greed from the consumer. Today people want what they want when they want it, eg strawberries on xmas day. As a lad we had seasons, e.g. I recall the excitement of the first Jersey Royals hitting the grocers...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Until you see paper at the front entrance, no rush this time of year. Air freshener would have been quicker if speed and impatience is your thing

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Dead easy, many a joyful hour spent as a child hunting wazzer [wasp] nests.

Some days I should not get up...

Hands up those who when crossing a electric fence has trusted a "mate" to hold the wire down with his boot only for the boot to mysteriously slip when your straddling it, delivering many volts and a fair few amps to the crown jewels O.o ??

    Queen rearing

Yes look to the Apiarist and his website for a simple no nonsense approach to QR. He did a presentation that was on the Tube to Cambridgeshire beeks earlier this year but it has been taken down now. Excellent presentation on how. So good I'm doing it next year.

Will mites become resistant to oxalic acid?

Agreed. Also the mites ability in terms of numbers to "explode" coupled with honey production and harvest means the beek must seize on every window of opportunity to control the pesky critters.
