Scout bees? Or am i getting excited over nothing?

I did wonder that. As saw one that had been set upon, escape and go into the other give next door, and go in unimpeded. Well one arrived at 1pm. So here's hoping. It was amazing.

Scout bees? Or am i getting excited over nothing?

Was going to ask the same, just talking a chance in case there was a passing swarm. Videos attached, lots of checking out the entrance, and you can hear them pinging off the inside walls. Two empty hives, set up with just a bit of ancient old brood comb, and a sheet of Foundation. Growing...

Lidl ...Honey warmer / wax melter thingy

Sorry should have added they were in madeley Telford this morning. You are probably correct, boxes did look like they'd been sat about for a bit. There were six left after I'd been.

Lidl ...Honey warmer / wax melter thingy

Not sure if it's a national thing. But these were reduced to £30 in my Lidl this morning. Boxes have had a bit of a kicking but they are fine inside. Not even got as far as getting my bees yet, but nothing like being prepared. 🤣

    Vertical take off?

Thank you all. I'm obviously way out here, so will have a rethink, I've got a while yet till 'bee-time'. I'll take a couple of wider pics, and annotate curly style with sun, direction, etc. Would like to try the garden first, from a purely selfish voyueristic viewpoint. Fortunately I am...

    Vertical take off?

Hives assembled ✔ painted on granddaughters instructions ✔ stand made.✔ Question is,. Going to try in the garden first, biggish garden, backing onto farm and field, neighbour is a beekeeper (though no bees at present at home) I need them as close to the fence as I can really. Is this an...

    Woodland Question

Getting excited now. No bees yet. But am surrounded by trees, both chestnuts, some limes, lots of sycamores, and within a stone's throw of the Severn, lined with ***** and goat willows. Plus all the bramble and hedges, and a bit of heather within flying distance too.

    I’d rather be

Another sailor, smaller than most of yours though. Fast cat and a phantom. Stopped me buying fast bike which wouldn't have ended well. Unfortunately not sailed since I've moved, boats still languishing at their old club, waiting for an end to all this and find s nice club in Shropshire.

    Positive beekeeping plans

Just starting out this year. And now with the generous offer of some local mentoring & help from curly, I'm much happier. Starting with no expectations, other than to enjoy it, I know I'll make some howlers, hopefully none too harmful, and I'm sure I'll learn from them as you should do from...

    Winter wonderland!

Mark. Sorry for not replying sooner, I am rather overwhelmed with your generosity, both in your time and bees! Thank you so much, of course I'll replace any frames and foundation (I've only got 14x12 at the moment though) , and hopefully I'll be able to help you out in some way in the...

    Winter wonderland!

Not really, asked an advice type question on their Facebook page, got a couple of replies, but that's it. Bought a couple of hives, nucs frames etc in the sales. Just learning all I can reading, watching and on here really. Can see all this going on for a while yet, so preparing to go it alone...

    Winter wonderland!

We looped caer caradoc as well, yes. Sheltered in the little cave, when the snow came through 🤣. Only been here a year, love all the hills, so majestic. But not been to stipperstones yet, on the list though. Just need to avoid the busy times and the crowds, same as the wrekin and the...

    Beekeeping reflections

Now you've all got me thinking ..... Doing my research this winter before I even think about acquiring any bees. And thinking out my shopping list to start me off. I don't anticipate having a great number of hives, but starting with two, and a nuc or two for contingency seems to be the...

Thank you Curly, I've been in touch with them by email, just waiting for them to send a link to join. Just sad that everything is on hold at the minute, but understand why of course.
