Emyr.Just for my knowledge bank. Forget option a) ? Getting to late in the year to offer reasonable chance of success given the timings or some other reason. Thank you for your help in any case.

    August options defensive hive.

I have one hive that has been a bit of a roller coaster hive all summer. Was a really early swarm collection, and has swung between pingy, and downright defensive, whilst others adjacent the same day have been ok. Every time I say.... 'last chance' they are nice, and get a stay of...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Finally has a day match up with granddaughter and weather combining together here, to go visit bees. Suited in a Smallish suit and ridiculously thick gauntlets just in case. No trepidation at all, though didn't find the smaller gloves till we were packing up. 🙄. Even ended up with no...

Help wanted with trap out in the Oldham Area...

@Sean You have no idea how much I want this to work for you. 🤣. You really have gone above and beyond here, kudos to Lucy the donor, if she isn't a member here she really should be just to bask in the limelight for a while. I am no way there in my learning curve yet, it's very steep, and...

What's flowering as forage in your area

Field of white poppies on neighbouring land, sewn for feed seed apparently, no idea if they are purely pollen producers , or have a viable nectar. And the phacelia has sprung up really quickly, the boss has planted 5ha right in front of my hives at work, as part of SFI, borage and 4 other...

    I’ve got BEEEEEES!!

I had this done just a year ago, too old for LASIK, so had the trifocal lens replacement. Did my research, found the surgeon I wanted, and travelled to Prague, first class service, surgery was £2400 both eyes, that's equal to last four years glasses bills ( I am quite clumsy, and prone to...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Well done. Exactly the same as me, it's a slippery one way slope to bee kit poverty from here 🤣. After splits in third year, I now have double the ten I started with this year after losing a couple early on. But I'll combine some back again after the swarm panic time is over...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Last year I left the spring honey on too long, fair bit of OSR around, and it was a devil to get out leading to me warming it in the kitchen and getting it 'oh so wrong' and having best part of 4 supers running lava like under the furniture. Not wishing to incur such wrath again 🤣 I've...

    Advice for pricing please.

£5 for 227g £7 for 340g. 20% less for 10 or more to shops. Keeping it at around what I think is the level of a couple of big commercial producers nearby, and don't want to undercut them, it's their living after all. So hopefully they'll appreciate that. (at least one is active on here🤣)...

    WSBKA Auction 2024

🤣. The thought of having money to launder as a beekeeper makes me cry 🤣🤣. Nearest I'll ever get to laundering cash is the emergency diesel fiver I forgot to take out of my suitcase before it gets washed 😢

    Weather

The fort clothing is really good, though as you say still get clammy inside. Still have my buffalo, and a Montane similar thing but came with hood included. Remember buying them for the guys at work, end of year budget leftover spend, and got loads of stick, ( urgh is anorak, don't want...

    Einhell strimmers

James. I bought an einhell strimmer from Wickes on offer 2 weeks ago, really good round the garden, not going to call with brush and brambles that the Stihl petrol eats though. Bonus was it came with another 2.5ahr battery and charger that they retail at £35 free with it. I'll find the...

At what point will the NBU give up on AHs?

The most sense I have seen written on AH has been on here. Especially the comments from Karol, way back I found his knowledge on wasps really interesting, and now even though he could have benefitted greatly from the 'panic' buying, he has held his line, that of the NBU, monitoring wick & bait...

God I love growing our own

Wow thank you for the comprehensive reply James. I think I'll start with some Jalapenos, a cherry tomato, and one of those sauce varieties Amish Paste or Polish Linguisa. Tomatoes from my dad's greenhouse always tasted amazing, I can see a chilli competition coming with my son who's...

God I love growing our own

Have had poly tunnel envy for a while. I'm never going to get one, or have the time or skill for a whole tunnel. But I've just inherited one of the small walk in plastic tube greenhouses (walk in is a bit of an exaggeration 😂). Plan is to put it up at work, tucked away, and look...
