Eco solution for keeping rodents away from hives

Snap - sick of the buggers shredding poly and kut in my shed, abd I've already git two bait stations inside 😑

    Thornes easy steam connector

I've had this Thorne's Easi-steam for a few years, just going through a few tens of brood frames (obviously not huge amount of wax yielded) abd put lots of brace comb I've gathered throughout tge year in too.... is it just me or is the bloody thing frustratingly inefficient!? I'm sure it used to...

Dedicated forum for bee keepers aiming for least intrusive approaches

He used to do a podcast too which was decent - I followed him but he's gone all tin hat conspiracy theorist - think he's basically David Icke these days...

    Keeping Warre's commercially

I'm prepared for the flak! I've already sunk thousands into various Nationals, but having read David Heaf's fascinating books and The Idle Beekeeper which was equally fascinating, I'm wondering if it's possible to keep bees commercially in a Warre type system (utilising my National equipment)...

    Affordable prewired assembled frames?

Bit weird replying to myself, but just for anyone else - Helen says they no longer transport bees to and from Hereford as they used, so the only option other than getting them sent, is collection from Telford when they're at the show.

    Hive stands

Hi all, I bought some metal hive stands from Bee Equipment at the start of 2023 - similar to the Abelo adjustable type, which need two posts to go through the top of the stand to make it whichever length. Bee-equipment are no longer selling them and I've not the money for Abelo's since I spend...

sugar cost and when to buy

A little hive alive or thymol or surgical spirit stops that too though - sounds awfully expensive unless you've a wholesalers account?

sugar cost and when to buy

Isn't it always several times the price though? The bees adding their own invertase has always been sufficient for me, never had issues with it crystallising tbf.

Looks like it's back to faithful fiver for 5kg pickups from Teaco for me then

bloody hell, that's a great price these days! Cheers!

sugar cost and when to buy

Allegedly it's meant to be improving, but they've been saying that all year and it's remained dreadful. The staccato of sun and showers and hot and cold is the very worst thing for the bees at his time of year as the queen is meant to be at her most fecund - I'm giving up chancing The Fates and...

sugar cost and when to buy

Sorry to bore everyone by reviving a dormant thread but my bees are starving and though I've given them some fondant but I'm looking to feed them with syrup in and use the unexpected dearth as an opportunity to draw new comb earlier than usual. I'm wondering if anyone knows where's cheapest for...

    Wooden double nuc

I bought a load of these from bee-equipment, intending to use them as Mike says if the bees ever build this season

    Dadant or Thorne Empire

Just as an addendum to the conversation - my new large dadant from modern beekeeping has just arrived and it must have 3 x as much metal and be several times the build quality of my previous imitation, so much more robust - I almost want to polish it and just look at it, it's beautiful! Thanks...

    Recording inspection notes

I have an Associate Beekeeper transcribing, she's useful to discuss decisions with and my brain has zero executive function, and beekeeping is a grand way to have sone quality mother-son time :-)

    Dadant or Thorne Empire

It was a dadant-style, identical dimensions, just v poor quality from a certain company notorious for poor kit and poorer service - in fairness it's served me well and not been treat kindly in it's 4 or 5yrs.

    Dadant or Thorne Empire

Awesome, thanks - the Empire was one I'd indecisively wondered about as it looks good quality but just too small

    Dadant or Thorne Empire

Glad to hear it's you're preference too - where did you get yours please? I've got about 5 different smokers, all variously useless and can't recall where I bought my poor build but useful large dadant, though I imagine we can all make an educated guess...
