    Cutting fondant

I've 3 prolapsed discs, but apparently that's normal for anyone over 30 and shouldn't be causing me any pain. Truth be told, I think I ripped something in my sacroiliac/coccyx area and everything else is a result of that being off kilter. It sounded like velcro when it went and I kept working in...

    How Much Feed?

Because the heather is a late crop and would end up full of supers with a mix of heather honey and fondant in. And my colonies not near heather I treat and feed at the same time, whilst I've obviously gotta treat the geather colonies later

    How Much Feed?

This is partly why I favour fondant, though David Evans whacking 12.5kg on colonies with no heather near is still something I've yet to try despite intending to for the last 3yrs

    Cutting fondant

A pallet of 88 x 12.5kg yes, but I've got a fair few leftover from last year, my colonies were extremely light on stores until the balsam finally came, so I was anticipating having to feed them through this past month and just continue through to get them upto winter weight. Looking less...

    Cutting fondant

Too expensive for the quantities I needed though sadly, so I've got just under 12.5kg blocks to split, have tried spades before and though rudimentary, it works, but would prefer something more like Neil's slick operation- means it's ready to go and I can see which colonies require more feeding...

    Cutting fondant

Invaluable Neil, thank you! Something tk keep my dad busy if I'm too crooked to do it. Incidentally, not taking good care of my bavk js the orecise reason I'm still awake at 3.26 and average 2-3hrs sleep - take care of yourselves everyone, please, I'm 36 and thought I was invincible

    Making fondant/candy

I'm encouraged by your success, I'll have to try them again. Once they've eaten the tonne of fondant I capitulated and bought! :-/

    Cutting fondant

I do it That's what I used to do prior to my back going AWOL

    Cutting fondant

You make that look easy my friend! I'd been told that bees take clingfilm down into the broodnest but if that works for you I'll give it a go - I think probably cutting it up in situ at different apiaries in response to hefting is perhaps a mistake I've been making too. I've also been torn...

    Cutting fondant

Too expensive for me I'm afraid- £1199 of 12.5kg bajers fondant are what I've git to play with - fondabee is v convenient, but vastly overpriced

    Cutting fondant

Done that previously but was hoping for something a little more accurate that saved on extra single-use plastic bags

    Cutting fondant

I tried that last year and it broke and was bearly as hard yo get through as with the bread knife, somehow :-/

The Brynmair slant on the Dartington Underfloor entrance

    I've seen it, I'm STILL feckless 😉

The Brynmair slant on the Dartington Underfloor entrance

Just need a way to work out how to convert the cheap OMF floors I bought 20 of inntbe sales a while ago! Underfloor is definitely the way yo go

    Cutting fondant

Despite being relatively youthful for a beekeeper at the grand old age of 36, I've got significant damage to my back from my previous job, particularly bad when involving any kind of torsion (another reason I prefer frames the warm way). Sawing or splicing fondant with a bread knife has had me...

    Making fondant/candy

Sam's cheapest was 15.50, I went with Bako for 13.95 - fondabee's handy for nucs but I couldn't justify the price discrepancy

    Wax moth prevention

Presumably, like Kerry at Abelo says of Apivar - freezing it would prolong it's shelf life?

    Wax moth prevention

Is this stuff definitely harmless to bees? Was considering getting a friend to smuggle me some certan in or buy a sulphur burner but presumably this is just made up into solution and sprayed like certan? Any point spraying it on my supers too considering I store them wet?
  19. Rory Fields

    Making fondant/candy

I did, but only thanks to you so I owe you one! Previously they'd not gotten back to me so one last try proved worthwhile - it'd have been sugar bricks for the lost otherwise. I'm v grateful!
