Hot Wax Dipping of hives and equipment

This is something that I have been concisering now for a while the only thing that has put me off so far is the setup costs of it all. To do it right and safely as possible you should have a custom made tank for the job and it takes rather allot of wax to fill it. I had priced up using 50/50...

    Langstroth advice

Putting boxes together is a big task. This year I have at lease 200 to assemble however mine are timber. I love poly but finances just won't allow me to buy poly. I bought the boxes but make the floor and roof. These is also 2000 frames to make as well. If you can afford to make it easy do so...

    honey creamer

I have 100 litre Lyson creamer. Great bit of kit but I have nothing to compare it to. All my **** honey goes through this for a super smooth creamer honey. Does what it's supposed to with no fuss at the right price. Tell Damien Paul from happy valley honey said it was good.

Moving hives to OSR - Super Organised !

The trailer is a nice idea but I would struggle to find places to put it. Boom loader has to be the thing. Lighter than the little truck and probably takes up less space. If I ever finish mine I will post some pictures of it complete.

How do Beekeepers manage with Nationals

Give them a second langstroth brood and watch them do between 14 and 18 frames of brood. Then wonder how people people cope with nationals.

Agreed, realistically the management takes me 1 day per week but add in the deliveries etc it's allot more.

Large Scale Honey production.. Viable ?

This is a difficult road to go down so far, at 80 colonies it's allot of work and little return. I am sure however there is light at the end of the tunnel if I ever catch sight of it.

Bees Sick - what to do

drone layer or laying workers, the brood isn't healthy as it's been neglected by the bees that are left.

    Hive insurance, not BDI advice

I insured mine with NFU also, covered my extraction container and live stock, can't recall the price off the top of my head but it was for cover on over 30k's worth of stuff.

    Equipment for sale

I felt the same, I have made a few very sensible offers for this kit but he has 4k on his mind and won't move from it. If some one was willing to pay 4k it would have gone long ago. It's sat getting a more dilapidated state every day.

Opening and closing MB poly hive

All seems like allot of faff, just crack the boxes open and puff a little smoke in if they need it. With regards to crushing bees make sure you send them down into the box your working on with a little smoke and brush the remaining few off before replacing supers etc. I like the lip on the...

    MB hive - winter management

I have 20 of the langstroth MB hives and I made a simple eke with a 4mm sheet of ply over it. This makes a base for the fondant to sit on, after that I made 4 holes in each corner and 1 in the middle. This allows bees to reach the fondant no matter where they cluster, I then line the tray...

    Equipment for sale

I didn't and don't mean to cause any upset or anything by my comments just so you know. It would appear some parts of the extractors are aluminium or steel and as such wouldn't be ideal. It's not as if it can't be over come just not ideal. Also is the pump stainless steel? It's hard to tell...

    Equipment for sale

It's very interesting but I have a feeling that some of it is not at current standards. However it's not impossible to get a new cage for the extractor which will bring them up to standard.
