I don't think it's nearly as invasive as other ways. But yeah, to each their own. I'm glad you can respect the different perspective. For me, when I heard about skeps during my beekeeping course, something just *clicked* for me and I wanted to find out more. Same as with growing food. I...

I know it's a different thread but in the other thread you said "There are many ways to keep bees. Whatever floats your boat." and so you can understand that a thread on the same topic with a "Why would you do that?" seems ever so confusing? :D Like you said, it's another way to keep bees. Not...

Skep making itself is on the endangered craft list. I'd like to learn how to do it purely on that basis alone.

Because it works? I'm not sure I understand the question. I thought we'd had this conversation on the other thread?

It’s certainly an idea. I’ll keep my topbars as I like them a great deal (and they were pricey!) 😊

Yes, exactly this. I much prefer the idea of the two storey method with queen excluder. I watched Chris drum to allow him to remove some honey. He made it look very easy 😊

You might find my thread Skeps Appeal interesting. I can’t link to it right now. If you would genuinely like to understand more about keeping bees in skeps, I highly recommend Chris Park’s course on Skep beekeeping. I just attended and it was fantastic and highly informative. It’s run through...

Lovely stuff! I've found a wonderful skep maker on Etsy (I *will* give it a go myself before this year ends). It's so nice to find passionate individuals, isn't it? Chris has a lovely way with his bees. Very happy to have found him via this forum!

I said I'd update this thread after I'd been to the skep beekeeping course. I attended the course yesterday with Chris Park and it was absolutely above and beyond what I'd hoped. He started with a presentation about skep beekeeping and it's fair to say he's probably one of the best UK experts...

    Youth and enthusiasm

I signed both of mine up for kids beekeeping school for Summer holidays :) They absolutely loved it!

    River Cottage "natural beekeeping"

I don't see any reason why someone couldn't ask him on his social media :) I don't watch his programs but hopefully he does talk about it more and give people an insight into unconventional keeping.

I’ve seen log hives with removable frames. But HFW one isn’t one of them (I don’t think). He’ll need stilts. Maybe ask Hugh? 😂

He’s doing very well. Good for him, I say. 👍
