Hi all, Here's the issue due to work I was away and on checking my hives when I got back I found that one has swarmed (maybe more than once)and has opened queen cells there are no signs of any eggs and the other has 3 capped queen cells now the question is should I split the one with the queen...

I think they starved ok but the slimey ones were capped

One of my hives died over the winter on inspection I found honey around the sides and very little brood but on inspection of this with a tooth pick most of the bees in the comb were dry and brittle some had mould but I discovered some were wet and slimey and black in colour but they weren't...

I am using hoffman frames. Its not just the one frame but 2 one either side. The frames were put in as soon as I moved the nuc in last march/april. I have seen them walking on them but only a few bees but they have never drawn them out. cheers

You are right it was a good read I'm definately trying this. I will try use the brood chamber with dummy boards and see how it goes. As for my swarms last year I didn't close the door so that could have been the issue!!
