What did you do in the 'workshop' today

My UFEs are the same design (but with mesh floor) and I stuffed mine with foam when I moved my hive from our BKA apiary to home a couple of weeks ago - worked really well.

Transferring a nuc to a hive

the BB isn't full of frames as they were only on 4 frames 2 weeks ago, and 5 frames last week, so i'll add 2 frames this weekend and the last the weekend after that (unless it looks like they need all of them this weekend).

Transferring a nuc to a hive

My colony was a nuc that I bought about 3 weeks ago. I moved it into the hive, in my garden, 2 weeks ago and the girls seem to be doing pretty well (there have been plenty of them coming and going and they look to be gathering lots of bramble pollen). It wasn't a huge nuc so i'm hoping to see a...

How long does fondant last in storage?

As someone who has a small (on the side) food production/retail business, BBE = Best Before End, meaning it is quite safe to eat well after that date, it just might not taste as good or maybe be as 'shiny' as it should be (if you are a baker) - think of chocolate that has bloomed etc, same thing...

    Apivar SOLD

I did a quick search and various people (on different forums) saying it won't last if frozen/vacuum sealed, for another year. If it works OK then i'll keep some back. Still have a couple to sell though ;) Thanks for the advice

    Apivar SOLD

I thought they wouldn't last in the freezer (from things i've seen online)?

    Apivar SOLD

Hi all, I have bought a pack of Apivar, but only have 1 hive, so I will have 8 strips (enough for 4 hives) left over. It seems a shame to throw it away so if anyone would like any i'm happy to sell it on at £3 a strip, free postage (I paid £31 +postage from Thornes for the pack). I'm based in...

    Sole Trader/Tax question.....

Whilst it may seem appealing to claim back VAT it will cost in the long run (unless you are willing to do the returns yourself) as an accountant will charge more to process VAT accounts, due to it being more complex that simple Self-Assessment. I run a small business with a modest turnover and...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I moved my hive home last night (7 frames on a National, transferred from a nuc last week). Watched them doing orientation flights from early morning. Did an inspection to see how much she'd laid in the last week as she had a bit of a sparse brood pattern last week, so i'm really pleased to see...

    Bees in a tree

Absolutely nothing, which I why I asked if there were another way to get them out (and have explained again in previous replies)! Although, having said that, it is a large Oak that has a huge bracket fungus at its base (which is probably why there is a cavity that the bees are using), so its...

    Bees in a tree

Yes, definitely honey bees, I got right up to the entrance (as I say, they were docile) so confirmed that.

    Bees in a tree

To be honest, they are now reluctant to euthanise the colony anyway, so i've suggested a fence to make the bees fly up and over the heads of any passing public.
