BeeBase, the Good the Bad and the Ugly !

The difference is they have laid out legislation that requires beekeepers to interact with Bee Inspectors, it is incumbent on them to make beekeepers aware of their responsibilities and duty to other beekeepers. I don’t believe the majority of beekeepers want to act illegally its more of...

BeeBase, the Good the Bad and the Ugly !

Is that a good reason for the more responsible of us to want it ? maybe we should be more vocal.

    Buckfast

Apiarist said :- " I used some top bars for an experiment, and quickly learned that whenever I got brace comb, etc. the act of cutting it annoyed the bees", Another good point, I never scrape and clean during the season, they are only going to replace it and that is a waste of energy for the...

    Buckfast

No, defiantly not. I have Buckfast and Carniolan, I would suggest Buckfast are generally the most docile bees, perfect for beginners. I have just started with some black bees and they seem also calm. It is not so much about the bees as the method of beekeeping, learn how to inspect your bees...

BeeBase, the Good the Bad and the Ugly !

My SBI telephones to tell me as soon as a notifiable has been found in the area to arrange a date and time to inspect, verry often when I am not available, she will inspect and usually I am clear. I would prefer a compulsory registration with a nominal fee of say £10.00 for hobbyist and £50 for...

BeeBase, the Good the Bad and the Ugly !

I keep seeing obscure comments regarding BeeBase, what exactly is the problem ? for me, I would promote compulsory registration having had EFB through no fault of my own donated twice by the same beekeeper moving hives and not telling my SBI when he moved them back or out of the controlled zone.

    Hive prices

Not at all, we hope at BeeTradex to get bee breeders and nuc suppliers to attend BeeTradex and tell the wider audiences what they do, this is what happens in Europe and Apimondia, we have been prevented from doing that because no other show wants to put a discounted price in the stand space.

    I wasn’t expecting that!

Can’t work that one out for this time of year, two observation come to mind if you ignore the time of year, overcrowding probably the most common one, the other could be poor fitting kit, one of the photos shows a lot of bees around the joint top of brood box between kit. The ones under the...

No honey show this year .............for us its all online.

Yes, all our Cedar and the majority of our white wood are produced at our own factory, mostly we only use Western Red Cedar, if it is from English Cedar we say so, for the future if the prices of Western keeps rising we may have to consider using more English.

BeeTradex was offered for sale and I purchased it, what is the problem with that ? I own 7 companies, I enjoy spending my money from property in the beekeeping world, I am open and honest, my approach to business over the last 52 years has always been the same, I am 70 next year work generally 7...

    Oxalic acid vaping...is it "non-treatment".

As I understand the law around products introduced to the hive, it is not just licensed pharma that need to be recorded. Before the licensed OA treatments we used the trickle method from a Spanish bottle of prepared OA that got stronger and darker with age, that had to be recorded for a good reason.

    Hive prices

Definitely not, I think this site is one of the best well run all-inclusive sites I have looked at, merely pointing out that people seem to think as a sponsor I have more impact or rights than a general user, we all have opinions and they should be discussed without fear or favour. :ROFLMAO...

    A way to combat CBPV?

Unfortunately I ended up with one of the four breeder queens a few years ago that went this way, It only happened one year out of the 15 that I have used the same source.

    Oxalic acid vaping...is it "non-treatment".

I don’t want to nit pick but any additional products added to a hive would be called a treatment licenced or otherwise, insulation to apiguard all are “Treatments” in one way or another.

    A way to combat CBPV?

I am bit late to this thread, sorry. It seems to me that It is not too stretchy to think that Ants could have an impact on our hives as vectors, they are frequent visitors to most hives and are from the same order as bees Hymenoptera, they may well contribute to many of the transferable diseases.
