What caused my colonies to fail?

I wouldn’t say it was just one thing, although the signs of varroa would be a contributory factor, I have seen hives with much higher loads survive, I can only see one bee with a varroa mite attached, normally in high loads you would see them on the wings or thorax. other contributors could be a...

Thanks Steven, I appreciate the feedback. I can see your point and to some extent understand Bath & Wests concerns. The aim for us is to embrace the local culture, give the nearest association to the events the opportunity to hold their honey show, taster days ( money for the associations...

    Oxalic acid treatment

As far as I can remember it was not he use of OA crystals that was the problem, it was the premixed 1lt bottles that beekeepers with just 2 hives would keep year after year, watch it gain in strength and keep using it.

Welcome to the wonderful world of beekeeping and beekeepers 😊😊

I agree in some ways, but not with the entirely different attendees part, why is it we think in terms “different” surely we are all beekeepers first ! the problem is the current formats of any show doesn’t seem to be designed to encourage new beekeepers. They are generally an ego massaging...

Well lets crank it up, report local TS to the minister Victoria Prentis MP

Never mind fighting amongst ourselves, lets work on the common enemy, divert all that pent up energy and direct it at the companies abusing the term honey. For once, can we just stop beating ourselves up.

Poll: Should it be legal to use the word "Raw" on labels to describe unheated, non-pressure filtered honey

I wonder if this has been analysed to see the pollen count is above the required 51% to be allowed to be called orange blossom, these are the sort of suppliers we should be concentrating on

Poll: Should it be legal to use the word "Raw" on labels to describe unheated, non-pressure filtered honey

And who is going to grade it……………….the same people who screwed the word Raw and move on to another hyperbole ! Incidentally the government has already set out guidelines.

Laurence Edwards' petition to allow the use of the word "Raw" to describe unheated, non-pressure filtered honey.

Isn’t that the basic problem, honey is not a uniform product, just like wine it varies. Isn’t that what we are proud of ?

Laurence Edwards' petition to allow the use of the word "Raw" to describe unheated, non-pressure filtered honey.

I think nihbs have a sort of red tractor scheme for honey sold by their members. Why don’t we all get behind this scheme, if it was adopted nationally we could have a honey day or something like the first press wine day. Advertise all the fabulous local association open days and shows. The...

Why not have a movement like red tractor! Obviously a bee logo with a tag line of one or two words ?

Laurence Edwards' petition to allow the use of the word "Raw" to describe unheated, non-pressure filtered honey.

Interesting point of view, however, when was the last time beekeepers worked together to achieve anything.

It is not "pure" unless you heat it and high pressure filter it, it contains pollens and offten parts of bees :)

Laurence Edwards' petition to allow the use of the word "Raw" to describe unheated, non-pressure filtered honey.

If you use “Raw” on your honey today as a marketing gimmick what are you going to use in 5 years’ time to describe the uniqueness of the product, start using hyperboles to describe honey and the product will suffer, just look at Trump is that how we want honey to be regarded. The fake honeys...

    BeeTradex

The largest show of its type in the UK, not surprisingly we want to expand it to other areas of Beekeeping, we want to encourage local beekeeping skills and marketing of beehive products such as pollens, honey and anything that can be made from the hive. A ground breaking wax exchange program...

    Hive insulation

Drafts are not the same a good ventilation, the “explanations” you have are for a different country, we are an Island with totally different climate changes. Show me one example of this type of build in the UK that has been successfully operating for 5 years We have many examples of failed...
