Has anyone had worse overwintering by switching to poly?

Many of them are not, even having poly hives, they are now buying vast numbers of wooden hives instead.

    OSR Advice

Agree, the temperatures can be very variable, maybe best to put them on, on warm days... and take them off on colder days.

Cutting Feeder Out Of a Polly Nuc

Strips of timber, sometimes the bees wax the sides up a bit and a float is not needed, but if the float sticks onto the bottom of the feed chamber when empty we loosen it from one end with a long screwdriver, takes a couple of seconds and the float is loose again to float up. Regards feeding...

What's flowering as forage in your area

Have two springs here with regards many things flowering, early in the valley and three weeks to a month later out over. OSR is also flowering in parts of Scotland now. Only 25 to 27 days away from the first grafts of the season...rain or shine.

What's flowering as forage in your area

Some fields of OSR in full flower now, miles of butterbur, wild garlic and dandelions also in flower, among other things. Certainly no shortage of forage now in this damp but mild weather.

Pollinating strawberries in a poly tunnel

I have mesh screens which I put in the poly tunnel doorways when the doors are open, otherwise the bees just go in there and die trying to get out.

    allergen statement

Not heard anything about it, certainly not been asked by any of the honey packers to put labels on the barrels stating the honey may contain nuts, but if they do require it in future...no problem. Did see a "may contain nuts" warning on a bag of Brazil nuts once though.
