    Robing pressure on mini nucs

Tweak your design (twin unit/single unit with integral feeder/external rails on the ends of the box/whatever) so that it has the same footprint as a standard frame nuc. This'll give you immense flexibility with a little thought.

To treat or not to treat...

My memory is unusually a little vague on this bit I'm sure he made some comment along the lines that alcohol wash is better at the National last year, he certainly made a point along the lines that the loss of three hundred bees to an alcohol wash was nothing to worry about, I'm rather...

    Hagens Bees

Not had the mail -and hope I don't get it but I do hope that the guy who complained to an entirely different (unrelated) bee supply company recently and as a result had his name and email address published on Facebook made a complaint.

    Latest from Defra on YLH

The team that located the nest isn't the team that destroys it so perhaps the destruction crew are tied up with other responsibilities.

    Another aspiring bee keeper

One bit of advice I'd give regarding reading matter is to invest in an annual subscription to one of the better general bee journals, in the UK that probably means the Beekeepers Quarterly although there are a couple of good ones from the US too. Some forum members will dismiss this idea...

    Another aspiring bee keeper

But they won't be delivered/ available for collection until after winter so you don't actually need a site sorted before December so the pressure is off. Also, remember that emails are easier to ignore than a cheerful face at the door, much as I hate cold callers this is the way things are.

    Varroa-resistant mites in Luxembourg

Paul Jungels is a highly regarded buckfast breeder who's been incorporating/working with primorski line queens for some years so the base of the story is probably pretty accurate

My own queens have defensive workers

"I've had daughters of my own local reasonably docile bees " That would be a real issue I suppose

    Getting old

After another recent thread I found myself listening to a q&a with Daniel Weaver, talking of his early years he mentioned that as their family firm was being built up his dad had nowhere near enough supers so would drive around the various different apiaries with a truck load of empty boxes and...

Langstroth Polly hive Abelo - Feeder help

Although not necessarily the hive that he himself used, but I've not researched the matter further

pollen capped frames what to do

I'm struggling to see why they need storing anywhere do they cause an issue of left in the hive with the bees?

My own queens have defensive workers

But at that stage, they're 'local' bees

Thanks @Antipodes, looks like it probably is him then. One of the few who've literally put their money where their mouth is.

Dedicated forum for bee keepers aiming for least intrusive approaches

There's a few interesting videos and a podcast or two lurking around the net -also a new (to me) interview which I've not listened to yet that I think might be the one mentioned by @Penninetrader but I'll wait to see if he's even referring to Weavers rather than posting a link.

No question that Weaver knows exactly what an africanised bee is, the question is whether I've got the right person, maybe we'll get a link to the interview being quoted.

Daniel Weaver? Hadn't heard about the law degree, thought he was a biologist, but could be the guy you're thinking of. If it is, I'd be surprised that he'd made a comment about having africanised bee resistance.

    Pursuit of AMM Black Bees

You can lecture some people and tell them what to do, but I'm not one of those so you'd best leave your instructions there.

    Latest time to buy bees

In the old days my grandfather and many of his generation would have recommended buying bees at the end of the summer (when they were cheaper) and their advice would have been spot on for the times but they weren't advising beginners in a time of varroa. This is the one potential issue I can see...

Swarm caught in July ain't worth a fly?

It is perfectly applicable with larger frames (I use modified dadant so have some idea of the possibilities. However, it's not really suitable with any frame in the hight of summer with brand new, soft, comb. Much better to leave untill the spring if at all possible when the come will be dryer...
