    New Information board needed?

Regulars in the forum will probably recall my oft stated remarks about EXPERIENCED beekeepers is a phrase only rarely describing COMPETENT beekeepers.

    Strainer/bucket design

I'm currently transferring honey from extractor to bucket through a 2 stage strainer. Its a battle with inquisitive insects. Looking at the design of the strainer with sliding support legs which leave an annular gap between bucket and strainer I'm thinking it's a pretty poor design. Draping a...

    Where are the wasps?

I'm currently running honey from extractor to bucket through two stage strainer. Continuously killing inquisitive intruders.

    Latest from Defra on YLH

You would, I would and no doubt half the beekeeping world would too. 🤔

    Hagens Bees

Being honest I'm more annoyed by the oft repeated mantra of can't talk to you unless you confirm x y z . It's security you know! This goes on when the buggers phoned me on my mobile! I can easily block spam posts

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Speaking to Damien at abelo at lunchtime he commented a lot of beekeepers were gloomy about getting a harvest in June but over the last few weeks things had changed considerably.

    New Information board needed?

Plus instead of using a natural tree cavity with thick walls for warmth in winter and cool in summer we've created an art student concept of what we think natural bees will survive in. Don't worry though we've made our mind up the honeybee is endangered and we know best

There's worse things than petrol as a customs man will know. 😵

Langstroth Polly hive Abelo - Feeder help

Same for me. I don't bother with an empty super as the abelo poly deep roofs are light and sit quite comfortably on top of the feeder with a half brick in the centre on top.

Queen emerged 29th/30th July. Not seeing any signs she's around

Time to sit on your hands I suggest. If you take the strips out having given the mites a sniff of the chemical you promote resistance. I'm not sure why strips are considered a suitable treatment when other non resistance forming treatments are available. Personally I avoid them.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I performed a quick check this morning and found two hives had fully sealed full supers. Out came the tea towel and bee-quick and I swapped the subsequently clear supers for a couple I emptied about ten days ago. I'll extract this evening when it cools down. What I have noticed this year is an...

What is the formula for calculating how much sugar sugar syrup contains?

Did the original recipe simply state a teaspoonful?🤔

    Where are the wasps?

Wasps are starting to become evident around me now.

    GasVap query

Very similar to what I now use. However my gas vap is an early model without clamping screw so I "reshaped" the flame tube with a bit of brute force and ignorance in my traditional manner 🔨

Swarm caught in July ain't worth a fly?

Rather than wire or even postal elastic bands I have successfully used string and a couple of drawing pins. A week later the bees had joined the bits of comb together and anchored it to the frame. I used scissors to remove excess string. Job done.

    Getting old

My GP put me on butec 10 patches after various treatments along the way for arthritis. He's ok with me taking a couple of paracetamol sporadically if I get a bad day (fortunately not too often In summer). Youth is wasted on the young. I could do with my various body parts being 20 again.🖖

Just for some fun.... an excuse to smile.

I was somewhat of a bookworm in my early schooldays. However when I got my first motorbike at 17 and had occasion to fix a couple of defects I discovered the benefits of keeping my weekly copies of The Eagle with its usual cutaway two page spread of various machinery of the day. The Norton...

God I love growing our own

About 6 or 7 years ago I bought a couple of Home Bargains grapevines in pots and planted one next to a pergola and one next to a shed wall. They did nothing for the first year then began to grow. They were thirsty plants but once in their stríde grew like mad. The grapes they produced were...

Sure about that? If it's a private treatment he/she will get rich.😎
