running bb with runners and DN1

I've run with DN1+plastic spacers and DN4 for years sometimes with both in the same box when short of spares. which requires plastic spacers on the end DN4 It's no great problem either way and being honest I wonder why anyone would think it would be. Even the plastic spacers aren't essential if...

Swarm removal from inside a flat roof

Revisiting this thread. It's the sort of job I would have relished a few years ago but arthritis has put a crimp in my style. Revisiting this thread. It's the sort of job I would have relished a few years ago but arthritis has put a crimp in my style. However if the ceiling is plaster board...

    Total novice here go gentle.

Damien at Abelo is a very good contact. Once you've gained some knowledge, hopefully via proper training a visit to Abelo is well worth the effort. I'd just add that the shop is like an Aladdins Cave. Best if you go with a mentor until you know which bits you HAVE TO HAVE and which bits can wait...

    Do you use Queen excluders

If the queen lays among the honey you have the problem of separation. I have seen reluctance to draw comb in the supers overcome by removing the Queen Excluder FOR A FEW DAYS which often overcomes the reluctance. Followed by replacement of the excluder and care to ensure the queen is in the...

    Feeding back their own honey

Just how much honey is involved in this tale of bewilderment and woe? It might be appropriate to just give it to the nuc donor if they have an extractor.

    Honeycomb

Maybe sell combination packs? Honey and gorgonzola or other strong blue cheese

Swarm removal from inside a flat roof

Have they checked their house insurance? Quite possibly that may be their best option.

Why does a swarm change its mind?

Absolutely! You've got to be able to accept alternative reality but it's something to experience. 😁

    Acetic acid question

I've got a spreader for the farmyard. It's pretty useless for the reason you mention but it's made from plastic si corrosion isn't amongst its failings. I think it's probably been designed to spread grass seed or similar and someone thought it might work with grit salt.

    Acetic acid question

A lot depends on the grade of stainless steel. We used to have an orifice plate at the entrance to a flash cooler where acidified starch slurry at 140 degrees C was blown into a partial vacuum where the temperature dropped immediately to 50 degrees. When new it was made from 316L but erosion was...

    Honeycomb

One local beek used to sell loose honey at his door into customers own containers. Mostly people brought washed jam jars I understand. Maybe there's mileage in that idea now jar prices have risen? Easy enough to sit a jam jar on small scales I think and it recycles the containers.

    rounded edges

Worth mentioning - drill a pilot hole for the screw to avoid splitting the wood, and if the wood is hard it helps to use a countersink as well . ☺️

    Crawling bees

🤣I guess you don't mean to refer to Key West (the one across the pond)? So perhaps the Gloucestershire location is unlikely to suffer the ministrations of tracheal mite? Maybe the op can correct his/her address to avoid future confusion.

    rounded edges

I liked metalwork better. You can always lay down a layer of welding on metal but it's not an option for wood.

    Fireweed, hawthorn and lime

There's a huge swathe of it along the banks of the Yorkshire Ouse about 5 miles from me. A couple of small patches along the main drainage ***** in my locality but they just don't seem to get going. I don't know why as the IDB studiously avoid clearing ***** as often as really required. I have a...

    Treated myself yesterday

A couple of years ago I bought a fairly new used Lyson motorised tangential extractor. It held 6 national super frames or 3 larger frames. The motor saved me a lot of grief from my arthritic hands and wrists but using the triangular basket wasn't very convenient. Talking to Damien at Abelo I...

    Hi, Chris here.

Re-reading this thread your comment " I have been keeping and teaching beekeeping for years, now," struck me as incompatible with killing colonies, simultaneous with wishing to save the bees. Each to his own I suppose but I can foresee a lot of colonies getting the chop if your message goes out...

    Crawling bees

Looking at your location doesn't help me understand which country you are in to think tracheal mites could be a factor. Where is Floucestershire?
