    NOT Checkerboarding/Chequerboarding

Apologies if I have misappropriated an existing term for what I was asking about. I picked the term up from this thread which in the first post described what I am asking about. Thread 'Adding undrawn supers' https://beekeepingforum.co.uk/threads/adding-undrawn-supers.56874/ "Alternating...

    NOT Checkerboarding/Chequerboarding

I took the full super off this morning... 17% reading on my refractometer. My first Honey after a tricky year... Happy me K ;)

    NOT Checkerboarding/Chequerboarding

Thanks for that, I was wondering if when I have an almost full super And am about to add another new one, if it was worthwhile moving some of the part filled frames into the empty super to encourage faster fill? K ;)

Any scouts at your swarm trap?

I wonder if the European Hornets are extending their range North with climate change? None in Northumberland yet as far as I know... K 🤔

    NOT Checkerboarding/Chequerboarding

Interesting link but I think his checkerboarding is more to do with Swarm Control whereas the chequerboarding I'm asking about is to do with filling up Supers quickly... Tbh my bees seemed to ignore the foundation frames placed between part filled frames :( K 🤔

    NOT Checkerboarding/Chequerboarding

Is it Checkered or Chequered? More like bloody Chess! K  :ROFLMAO:

    NOT Checkerboarding/Chequerboarding

This has been discussed recently here Thread 'Adding undrawn supers' https://beekeepingforum.co.uk/threads/adding-undrawn-supers.56874/ but could I ask for clarity as there seems to be two arrangements being discussed... Single Super - alternating filled comb with empty or just foundation in...

    Refractometer

Mine arrived today and looks good. Calibrated it with olive oil as advised then measured some honey from a jar bought at a farmers market recently and it was just below 20% water... I don't yet know what the other scales are for? K ;)

What did you do in the Apiary today?

17 days after a successful split to increase I did the first thorough inspection of both nuc and donor hive. Both are doing well with BIAS and stores aplenty. At the last quick (due to weather) inspection 7 days ago I decided to add a super to the hive and am glad I did. All frames are drawn and...

Thanks James and Swarm. That makes the job a lot easier. K ;)

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Do fat dummies need to be of a size which prevents bees from getting around/under/over them or do the bees just not bother going behind them? K 🤔
