As it was a strong colony I was thinking that if I went for the nuc now option I could actually donate brood to the other colonies boosting them... I reckon the nuc would be pretty crowded with the number of bees though, so I think Dani's suggestion to leave her where she is, is what I will do...

Could you not just gently brush or smoke them off in small batches and place a board below the entrance to stop them underflying back to where they were? I'm thinking they are all flyers anyway and will go back to the correct entrance... Good luck K ;)

How long do you leave the empty super on? Or do you smoke them down like I had to with the eke? K ;)

Last time I used a rhombus escape board it was on a 2 inch eke. The supers cleared in no time but when I lifted the board off, the eke below was brim full of bees! It took a while and some smoke to get them to move down. I think I will just use the rhombus board with a single bee space direct...

But today it was warm enough to move the red Queen colony from its Nuc to a dummied down (so 8 frame) hive. 5 Nuc frames all had BIAS- most being capped worker, with stores filling the remaining cells. I think I moved them at the right time. K ;)

Converted an OME to UFE after Thornes sent me a nice email of their WD entrance (Wasp Defence) with detailed photos showing the construction. Mine is slightly different due to the offcuts availability but essentially the same. Took half an hour and kept me out of mischief while it's chucking it...
