    Bees in the rain

It's really odd. I mean it's proper training, and they seem to be enjoying it. Quieting down now though but they were out for an hour. Very odd indeed. Both hives too.

    Bees in the rain

Hello everyone. It's pouring down with rain here but despite that the bees are cavorting around the hive like it's a midsummer day. Shooting off in all directions too. I've never seen them do this before. What gives? Thank you all.

ordered some manley frames to try!

Would you suggest only 9 frames in the super PH? Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk

ordered some manley frames to try!

Good point. Hadn't considered that. How is it meant to be managed? Thanks Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk

ordered some manley frames to try!

Erichalfbee: what is this gift thy spake of? Is there some alchemy to Manleys which one would require to use them? I bought a pack in readiness for trying them, just for an experiment when I'm a little more learned but you've vexed me. Is there a trick to using them? Thanks. Sent from my...

New laying queen but capped cells present?

Update Just to let you know, if interested, that I went back into the hive today and the cells were gone. A few empty play cups but no sealed cells. Hive festooned with eggs and bias with a very comely, compact brood pattern. Looks like the new queen has been very busy just like her mother...

New laying queen but capped cells present?

Yes, I intend to. Was in on thursday so I'll leave it a couple of days as its thundery here anyway and see what it looks like. They've been very busy this week and working hard so I'm heartened. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk

New laying queen but capped cells present?

There's a lot of bees in there and I'm not the best at spotting queens. I'm thinking if they want to supersede then let them. They're doing it for a reason after all. I'm not phased if they go ahead and replace her. Why would that be wrong?

New laying queen but capped cells present?

No Murox, I let it be. Either way they will get what they want in time. I've buggered about enough and realise the best thing I can do is nothing atm. Oft times discretion is the better part of valour, or so I'm quickly learning in all things beekeeping. Or do you think I'm incorrect do leave...

New laying queen but capped cells present?

Thank you for your advice. They've sorted everything themselves despite my hamfisted keeping methods and I am thinking to leave well alone. If they were going to swarm they would have already and if course they were 7 weeks or so with no queen so they will lacking bees. Wouldnt it be the case...

New laying queen but capped cells present?

I went into my second hive today and was delighted to find eggs. I split them in the first week of May, with no QC and let them get on with it. Que really wet and miserable weather, I'm in scotland. After adding a frame of eggs from my other hive and then another today I finally saw eggs. All...

    Wasps in the bait hive

Damn wasps have taken up residence in my swarm lure. It's only at head height so easily manipulated. My thoughts are to leave them until tonight and place the entrance excluder in to close it up. Is this the way to deal with it and how can I stop this happening again if possible. Thanks as always.

    Did I see a queen?

I have marked the frame and will now let wherever will be. I know it's not an exact science and things often go wrong but 4 sealed with nothing inside? Bizarre. However I'm prepared to let them do as they do and simply monitor and hopefully learn from it. Thanks for your thoughts. Appreciated

    Did I see a queen?

Ok. I'll let them alone now. I'd rather they swarmed than become laying workers as honey is not the holy grail for me and it's all good experience whatever happens. Thanks for your help.

    Did I see a queen?

But do I destroy the charged cell? Why are they building cells if there is a queen? I don't get that. It shouldn't happen, and I'm certain I saw a queen. Way too long and slender for a drone or a worker. I'm very inexperienced but you know that feeling when you see something and it hits you? My...

    Did I see a queen?

May 2nd. Then I went back in on 7th and left one cell.

    Did I see a queen?

All advice gratefully received. I found queen cells at the beginning of May and moved my queen to a nuc. Shes doing great. Left the main hive alone until last Thursday and went in to see what was going on as I've been away for the weekend. No eggs, larva or queen but being my first full year I...

    In a Q- hive......

Agreed it was 3 or 4 days too soon but I'm away this weekend and the weather is to turn cooler for the next several days. My thoughts were if I added some BIAS then if they had no queen they may get to work a little earlier on making one and if they did have one then nothing lost. An insurance...

    In a Q- hive......

.....would bees be festooning, building wax? I split a hive 25 days ago and went in today to check on them and didnt see any brood nor did I expect to, but did see them wax building. I stole a frame of BIAS from my other hive and swapped it for an empty frame and intend to check again in 4 or 5...
