What did you do in the Apiary today?

That's awful Moobee, my heart goes out to you. I know it doesnt make it any easier but they were clearly very well looked after and loved going by their photo - a lovely and happy little dog.

Time for a new washing soda solution container

I was going to suggest an empty mineral lick bucket from your neighbour but it sounds like that bridge might have recently been burned!

    Attempted Hive Thefts

My grandad used to remove fish without permission from the old clough dam that once supplied the village. The local squire naturally took exception to this but could never catch him in the act so resorted to liberally sowing the area with gin traps. Grandad found this game of cat and mouse...

Price of honey jars - up , up , up

Some of those lessons take a while to sink in, there was an outbreak of dysentry at Sheffield schools earlier this year.

    Tree wound sealer

Sorry to hear that, sounds like a prize tool. Not really off to a good start in a new community. The only time I'd consider applying something to cut boughs would be for ash. I doubt it would make any difference but I'd hate to think I'd provided an easy vector for die back to get in. Its...

    Abelo Polyhive sale

It's selectable in the menu on the left hand side as the Great Poly Sale.

    Thanks that's really handy.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Took advantage of the mercury getting into double digits here to add some fondant.

    Gasvap Modifications

It's a hell of an Integrated Pest Management plan that includes a 40mm cannon! I wouldn't ever want to meet the varrora that requires that:)

    BBKA magazine recommending open feeding?

You should have been Pope, but the Jesuits had it all stitched up!😂

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

@ James, Gary and Pargyle Thanks a lot , that's helped me make up my mind. I had heard broadly similar things online but I place much more weight on hearing from folk who are real and know can operate the tool and what to reasonably demand from it in terms of performance. I'll continue my...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

How do you find that table saw please Gary? I was looking at getting one of that brand but havn't pulled the trigger for fear of getting something that wouldn't last.

I was thinking it but didn't want to say it.

    Bee Wagon recommendations

Yes that's right and partly why alot of people started moving to pick ups etc. It's ok if you've got a trailer but the good ones draw attention as well:cautious:

    Bee Wagon recommendations

The people that go after them are pretty persistant. A farm on the other side of the valley had a breeze block and concrete wall dismantled during a storm one night and Defender plus quad taken. There's not much that is really secure, all you're doing really is slowing them down. There's...

    Bee Wagon recommendations

I wouldnt recommend a Defender. They are a great vehicle but are a favourite target of thieves. Guy down my road got ran down trying to stop some scumbags stealing his from outside his house.

What a day to be driving!

It's a pet hate of mine when drivers don't adjust to the road conditions. Glad you made it home safe. Whenever we have an icy spell or a dusting of snow, I am surprised to make it to work without passing at least one in a ditch or having ploughed through a wall. My only indulgence with my...

Thermomite: a new weapon against varroa

Someone concerned about security! If you had some way to secure the roof with an inset lock it would be safe from everything except the most determined thief. Other than those long hives that are fixed/ built into the ground they'd be the safest hives around. The weight of a full super has...

Thermomite: a new weapon against varroa

There's a few designs around. I wouldn't be surprised if they would crack after a dose or two though.
