    Randy Oliver OA sponges

I have heard Randy Oliver speak several times about his sponge method for oxalic acid application and have been attracted by the simplicity and relative safety as against sublimation. I have also wondered about the efficacy of trickling eg. how much trickles out of the open mesh floors. I...

Some Advice Please - small gifting jars....

I have done this in the past and I adapted empty plastic sweetie jars from a sweet shop. I drilled/cut a hole near the bottom to fit a tap. I used the following and found it perfect for the little pots that Wynne Jones supplies as a fast flow is not necessary but the control of these taps was...

    Is beekeeping getting harder?

Having spent 34 years beekeeping in Aberdeenshire and now 13 years in Somerset there are advantages to both placs. I think my yields are similar although in Aberdeenshire we did have oil seed **** and love it or hate it I found it a bit of a life saver early season. I don't have it here but...

Absolutely agree - just for a temporary emergency

    Feeding with dry sugar

Dip a bag of sugar into water for a minute or so and take it out and let it dry. It forms a crust. Cut a square out of the bag and put it against the top of the frames. Save the sugar crystals spilling everywhere.

    Cleaning extraction equipment

It wasn't the reason for my divorce but I am aware of the possibilities. Equipment - extractor etc I leave between days. In the kitchen I have a cheap tarpaulin which covers the floor completely and it is folded up and popped in the washing machine each night with 2 rinse cycles and put on the...

    The right brood box setup?

As you know I run poly hives and I use them as five or six frame nucs with dummies and then expand by moving them along when adding a new frame up to they are full size. Easier than transferring the whole lot into a broodbox and then expanding

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Possibly OK in a heavy flow but in normal conditions I think the 11 frame arrangement would lead to less brace comb and more even comb. Any comment on this?
