Any opinions on honey jar filling

Have been looking at honey jar filling rather than using the tried, tested but sticky honey gate and came across these and wondered if anyone had used or have experience of them, Not a huge production each year so not in the market for anything industrial but would be good not to have to tip...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

This wouldn't work at all in the UK. First the train drivers would all go on strike for months preventing weekly inspections. If they do run they will terminate early and you will have to get the whole lot onto a bus service. If the drivers get the pay deal they want then ASLEF will make sure...

They do say that repeated Apiguard can lead to resistance in Varroa - how long have you been using it?

sugar cost and when to buy

I start the syrup now and let them take it down until they stop - The ivy then tops up what they use between now and then hopefully and then fondant in the really cold weather as their Christmas/New Year gift. In slabs not little containers over a crown board the cluster can't find if they are...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

A great find!! The edit function has just made me 900 years younger. Don't feel it though - could someone tell my aching back!!!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Can't remember successive years so different. 2023 - unbelievable spring, anticipating record honey crop and then a summer of nothing. 2024 - spring/early summer a disaster and despair followed by an exceptional turn around with an incredible and long lasting nectar flow. Different results...

I agree the twist in the 35mm id rings is a bit tight but what it does is allow the rollers to work in the correct way but if forgetting the twist works OK (I never tried that!) then that's great. I'll send you a few O- rings but you can get them from a company called Simply Bearings. If you...

A couple of questions from my first proper end of season extraction.

I wonder if this might work . Cheap. When I did heather honey I mashed up all the wax and honey comb left after cut comb was taken and put it in a nylon filter bag with a draw string and put it and used a second hand stand alone spin drier with an outlet into a bucket. Cappings came out bone...

Very low varroa counts: prophylactic treatment or not?

Got my order from C Wynne Jones within a couple of days. No thought police knocking at the door yet but do have some badly stained wood at the door as a reason for ordering just in case!

    Latest from Defra on YLH

Why wait a week? Perhaps there is a logical good reason? Do they have to fill in a form, do a risk assessment? Who knows - just damn well destroy it!

    This just annoys me

I have a 9 frame and it often shakes at the start of the extraction, I got over this by putting a strap around the extractor and around the heavy range cooker reasonably tight with a thick piece of foam between cooker and extractor to prevent damage (to the extractor of course!). It certainly...

    This just annoys me

I guess that the 3 legs is based on the milking stool principle in that you can put it anywhere and all three legs are on the ground. If you go to a rustic pub a four legged table often has one leg supported by beer mats to make it stable and after a few bottles of wine it is the diner who...

    A level results

In spite of having a BSc and a PhD from long back, I am still convinced that University is not for everybody. Much better to be happy doing something you feel fulfilled in doing, and doing it to the best of your ability which is easier if you enjoy it. Great to hear of the successes on here.
