    Equipment Wanted Capping spinner wanted

Get an upright spin dryer at a fraction of the cost of a dedicated spinner and adapt it. A mesh inside the drum and the cappings inside a drawstring filter bag and a bucket to collect the honey that comes off. You get a lovely dry cake of cappings. Simples!!

    Niche beekeeping rant

I ordered frames from Paynes in the closing down sale. Thar was 9 days ago and have now heard that they are on the way. From the comments posted on the forum they must have been inundated with orders so 9 days I reckon to be pretty good. Sad they are going but best of luck to them in the...

    Frame runners in nucs?

On brood boxes (Honeypaw) they come in the flat and I just run the frame ends through the table saw lowering the frame rest position a fraction to allow the fitting of a runner to the correct height of the frame. Not so easy with complete boxes but it is possible with a very sharp Stanley...

    Air and crystallisation

Without starting another thread can anyone suggest the best way of allowing crystalisation of honey eg warm or cold so it does not form the ghastly large crystals at the bottom of a jar with the liquid at the top. I realise that seeding with fine crystals helps but the physical conditions would...

    Manual Honey Filling Machine

Maybe I am being totally thick (wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last) but how does the bucket arrangement link to the "hopper" containing the honey on the manual filling machine. The small hopper size is the only drawback of the kit I have found as it takes a while for the honey to...

That type is based on a peristaltic pump but I have no info on how good they are.

    Manual Honey Filling Machine

I have just invested in one from Thornes on a recommendation from a guy in our division and did my first hopper of honey about 30lbs. Setting up was a doddle but take your time getting it calibrated but can't fault the reproducibility and accuracy once set up. I am doing about 500 jars a year...

Things you never knew you needed...

Apparently mobile phones falling into the long drop at Glastonbury is the most found item at clear up time. You don't bother to try to retrieve them, you just go through the motions.....................

Things you never knew you needed...

No idea. Just thank God it doesn't send you a message to tell you that you have stacked the dishes in the dishwasher wrongly. Get it to forward the "finished" message to the lady of the house and she may empty it!! If it's really smart it won't do that!

    Paynes, closing?!

I moved from Aberdeenshire to Somerset as I had done my PhD near Bristol and had a dream to return in retirement. Having obtained my passport and undergone a deep and detailed interrogation by the Somerset beekeepers - why I should want to move to a Varroa area from a Varroa free area (not...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

As the PM has admitted today according to BBC news. Labour's "inheritance" will mean our kid's legacies will be taxed I fear. With property prices the way they are you don't need to be rich to pay IHT on your demise....... Back to beekeeping now for some light relief.
