What did you do in the Apiary today?

Last year Mike Palmer gave a great lecture on making kit and we had a chat after about the lack of practical classes in schools leading to beekeepers buying rather than building kit.

    National Honey Show, who’s going?

I have tried to stay fit and slim to stand out from the crowd - it has been a complete failure and mission impossible,

    National Honey Show, who’s going?

I was thinking of wearing a skep on my head tilted at a jaunty angle but others may have the same idea and I don't want to be the victim of identity theft. Can't be too careful these days.

    Call from a tree surgeon

Many moons ago in Aberdeenshire pre-Varroa I had a colony in a tree. It was not very long - about 3 feet so I nailed a board on the lower end - the cut was not perfect so there was a gap which acted as an entrance. I put it upright and for about three years I screwed an 18" x 18" ply board on...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

First visit to the apiary in a while. All well fed and obviously adding to their stores from ivy. Bees flying in the warm sunshine and pollen coming in to all seven colonies. Having to walk across the field to the bees as the Somerset levels are a bit too wet for vehicle access over the last...

North Korea joins invasion of Europe's' biggest honey producer

I find it strange that the socialist philosophy is designed for the common good and equality between the citizens. These are the countries who ruthlessly pursue their agenda of attempting to overthrow neighbouring countries at any cost. Common good? Don't think so.................... Bully...

    Sending Honey to EU

Cabin baggage honey is a no-no. In the hold it's fine. Personal experience. I offered it to the lady who confiscated it but she said although she loved honey it was against the rules until the "over 100ml rule was scrapped". I then told her she wouldn't need to confiscate it as it was for my...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I still have the box my MAQS strips arrived in. I keep it solely as a reminder of the damage they did on the 2 colonies in which I used it. Total wipeout. Fortunately it was only a third of the apiary.

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

The frosty stare would have helped curdle the cheese. Got to look for the silver lining.
