Sigh! I'm interested to know how many beekeepers own 78 square kilometers of land around a previously found nest to be able to site 78 traps spaced at 1 per square kilometer. Really interested to know how many beekeepers own 314 square kilometers of land around a previously found nest to be...

    Death of Analogue

I'm not so worried for myself. It's some of our more vulnerable older people I have concerns for.

    Death of Analogue

So what do we think about BT scrapping analogue lines? Personally I think it's a disaster waiting to happen. Any loss of power with digital and there's no means of calling an ambulance! Talk about setting up the UK for a fall at a time of energy insecurity!

    7 Beehives Stolen Llandudno

Quite clearly a planned operation using a sizeable vehicle or trailer so not going after just one hive. Might pay to consider installing a concealed tracker in one of the better hives within an apiary. Something like Spytrack Nano which has a 50 day GPS signal?

These are outbreaks caused by transit of impregnated queens from France either hitching lifts on human transit routes or blown across on strong spring winds. There is no proof as yet that the increase from 20 to 72 was due to surviving overwintering queens. France being the operative territory...

That's very clear. For context. I have a globally patented wasp trap and have been teaching pest controllers integrated wasp management as part of their formal cpd for 20 years. Back in 2015/2016 I had the opportunity of extending my business by taking advantage of velutina in France and...

    Asian Hornet APP

There's little or no money to be made from eradication and time and again I've encountered vested interests plugging 'management' solutions in respect of velutina. Given that velutina is a human introduced invasive species there's no logical rationale to oppose an eradication method which if...

    Asian Hornet APP

I think you are absolutely correct that this will be year on year. The reason being that there will continue to be a residual reservoir population of velutina in mainland Europe for as long as nefarious actors make significant profits from traps, baits, harps, etc, etc which all rely on a...

    Asian Hornet APP

What's the point of providing further clarification when you ignore sound advice from people who have successfully helped eradicate velutina in the field? What is it that prevents you from understanding that spring trapping is counter productive and will only serve to help velutina become...

    Apiary vandalism / animal rights

I wouldn't look for signs of intelligence where there are none. I received death threats back in the 90's because where I work we produce bespoke medicines a lot of which are intended to treat paediatric patients. A bunch of animal nut jobs took it into their heads that we had to be testing on...

There is a place for high efficiency wasp traps which do the job but do so without killing vast numbers of wasps and without attracting non target beneficial species. But this is another area that requires knowledge and experience.

I suggest you have this wrong. All vespines including hornets share carbohydrates via trophallaxis. When fipronil is ingested it will kill however, the time to kill will vary based on the formulation. Provided this includes carbohydrates and 'bound' fipronil there is a window of opportunity for...

    Asian Hornet APP

Fipronil laced protein is a static bait devoid of human agency and completely and utterly ecologically irresponsible to the point of being environmentally criminal. Not only will it kill not target insects, it will kill birds and mammals as well. Such use of fipronil is reprehensible. FC...

    Asian Hornet APP

Yes you have. Velutina is not established in the UK so there is no justification to use FC. Far better to get the NBU involved because apart from nest eradication they also play a pivotal role in monitoring and field intelligence. FC is not fool proof. It takes skill, knowledge and experience...

Just a little tip. You might have to twist the wicks together to give you a better capillary action if you find that they remain too dry in use. Otherwise spot on.

    Time to change our tune?

😁 I get that life is sustained as a biological battery and that honeybees are a supercharged marvel of nature! Notwithstanding, my comment was tongue in cheek about this 'energy' being perfused into honey to make it a miracle hay fever cure.

    Time to change our tune?

Electrostatically charged honeybees. Sounds like a new theory. Bit like succussion in homeopathy!

Just use a wick based bait station. No bycatch. No harm to indigenous vespine populations. No loss of indigenous vespine competition. Far less risk of velutina getting a foot hold. Far less d**king around.
