Eco solution for keeping rodents away from hives

I could sell you a kitten for not a lot more than that………..it’d certainly last longer & I‘m happy to recommend the reliability - we have very few rodent issues.

We don’t use polys so unable to comment on that but yes, acetic left in over Winter and then aired in the Spring prior to supers being utilised again.

    Acetic acid question

https://www.bee-craft.com/beecraft-extra/articles/safe-use-and-handling-of-acetic-acid We store supers/brood boxes all over winter with acetic acid and the stack wrapped in cling film. Does store them well but the wires embedded within the foundation do corrode so will eventually give out...

    Starvation warning ⚠️

Still plenty of forage around in certain areas and colonies are strong - but they’re not bringing in excess. As others have said, I also am dropping brood frames with stores into many hives at the moment - yet to take off the crop but a fine balancing act between harvest / treating / feeding...

    Cleaning 2 ‘lost’ hives

Bees on bottom of brood box - I’d be surprised if you didn’t find a few wasps also. Money would be on weak colonies stripped out by wasps. Store your combs in the boxes with acetic acid for re-use next year or put in a freezer to kill off any wax moth & then store sealed up in a dry environment.

    Equipment Wanted Swienty jarring machine

They don’t usually have sales/promo’s unless through Bee Farmers Assoc. Suggest you join Bee Farmers and then get in a quick pre order for collection at...

    Extractor wobble

Ensure the surface you’ve sat your extractor on is level. We’ve a very minimal slope to a central drain & that makes a difference - a 2mm plate under a leg levels things up and rebalances.

    Formic Acid shelf life

I’ll come out in favour of MAQS/F.PRO - only issue for users of this is, I believe there has been no import into the UK this year. From previous threads the best way to store was in the freezer…………..
