    Mobile bee hive….. discuss 😁

Completely & utterly agree - a company promoting & encouraging utter bolax. In my view should be treated as a severe case of AFB, burnt & buried. Creditation to iso whatever whatever - always amazes people/businesses buy into this Rant over

    Apimondia Honey Show

All well & good tasting Honey but the accolade of winning at Apimondia must be pretty darn good - a shame no Honey Show.

    Extractor

Manleys have been mentioned - if you are using them just make sure your 20 frames extractor will actually take 20 manleys. Not all will.

    Apimondia Honey Show

The meeting still taking place - but no Honey Show within?

Selling, we are doing it wrong.

Sell anything once it getting em back again (& again) that’s the trick

    Hagens Bees

You might even get an additional 5% for a 1st time purchaser by using the code HAGENS*FIVE I'd looked at the formic pro on a number of devices prior to purchase............an email came through (surprise surprise) advising I'd left something in my basket, would I care to complete purchase with...

How do you manage gunge when warming stored honey?

It’s only set froth Amari. I used to scrape off with a spoon (when set hard) but now like already said, just warm & put through a filter. I’ll filter the bulk liquid into a tank, allow to settle & cool. Remove layer of froth with cling film & then introduce set from the previous batch. Creamer...

Equipment Wanted Wanted - small heated honey creamer

One thing about the Abelo creamer. If you can get one with the motor at 90 degrees to the cross bar as opposed to sitting on it parallel you’ll be able to remove enabling Honey to be poured in easier & the unit to be cleaned out with ease. I believe those that with the motor parallel it’s an...

    Thymol death syrup

If all the syrup has been taken down I’d agree but typically I find not. It bugs me about the ring of death in ‘English’ style feeders. Bees just not really working the feeder, some syrup taken but the majority remaining in situ with a surface of dead bees in the cone. In the past I’ve tried...

    New Bee keeper

Insurance covers your equipment. Useful if the bee inspector tell you to incinerat your gear, due to AFB or bad cases of EFB. I think there's also some 3rd party insurance in there, I need to check the policy. You get £10m cover. Not all equipment - frames I believe in the event of destruction...

Is not removing the QX a big risk?

Well put the super under the brood box
  14. W

    Bee free honey

I’ll also add people are turning away/waking up to the processed food market……..of which this definitely is. Compared to our product which is (or should be) a unadulterated natural product.

    Over winter hive set up

Ask a simple question & get an array of answers……….🤣 For my pennies worth stick your super on the floor & brood box over then crown board/quilt. Queen X can then go on the top of all this under the roof for storage over Winter. Come Spring queen & brood should be in B/Box where it belongs & an...

    Buying kit in sales

Thornes have had winter sales in the past - items maybe a pound more but they do post out on a minimum order value. This is easy achieved given the price of kit these days

    Buying first hives

Or self spacing Manleys in your supers (*10/box), no need spacers - if you speak to Thornes they might offer this as an upgrade. Dummy boards only for brood boxes

    Confession time!

Not only you Pargyle……..bucket needed another inch or two to fill it, tank was almost drained - I thought I’ll just let that seep though while I’m doing xyz. Three hours laters returned  A wide paint scraper or something similar to scrape up and then wash down with detergent. Final...

    Delay introduction of bought queen?

Using Formic Pro can result in a broodless period sometimes & in some colonies. Queen may go off lay and/or eggs/young larva removed. Pretty strong stuff but it gets the job done, I’ve used it for the last 6-7 years & have no plans to change.

    honey price update

Sell near bulk rates……..£3/lb bucket price there or there abouts, less than that in a barrel. £4.50/12oz goes to £6/lb. Consumers don’t get the option…….yeah they do they buy direct from producer. Push prices too much and you force the majority of buyers down the route of the local supermarket...
