What did you do in the Apiary today?

Checked the farm bees last week. They were fairly active and appeared to still have a good amount of stores, but I added a kilo of fondant to all of the hives nonetheless. The allotment bees had been a little neglected and I knew that one had not been fed when the others had been. As usual...

    Jars prices on the rise

The whole thing is totally crazy! The BBKA asked on their form how many hives I wanted to insure. I think I put 30. They then calculated how much it would be. I paid by debit card. Then I got a message saying that I had done it wrong and owed them another £1.75. It was amazing. I then...

    Jars prices on the rise

That counts me out then. After the mess up the BBKA made and the ensuing argument I had with them, they sent my membership and insurance money back last year. I gather that I am 'persona non gratis' now. I had been a member since I first had bees, twelve years ago. Except for that year the...

    More osr around this autumn/winter

The farm where one of my apiaries is has had to give up growing OSR due to flea beetles. 😲

    Poly usage

No fuel company worth its salt will give away such a power source for nothing!

    Poly usage

You're right.....less developed countries have no choice, as it's a matter of survival for them in many cases. It's us, living in the more developed parts of the world that have to take responsibility, make changes and help them!

    Poly usage

    Looks like I'm playing catchup here.....BBL! :p

    Poly usage

I hate open-toed sandles, but believe it's worth hugging a tree now and again to pick up on the energy it conveys. Try it! I also believe that 'off world intelligent entities' have been with us for thousands of years and are with us now! However, I am also a 'realist' if that's a term people...

    Jars prices on the rise

    Ahhh....yes.....what a fool! :ROFLMAO:

    Jars prices on the rise

I thought that, but a pallet lorry arrived with my last order. It was only carrying that! The delivery price put about an extra 12p on 360 individual units. I would reckon that double or treble that amount would considerably reduce that cost?

What did you do in the Apiary today?

There is clover and some ivy in sheltered areas still flowering. On the domestic front Choisya and other 'foreign' plants are still flowering.

    Jars prices on the rise

I buy from The Bottle Company South, based in Bristol. I've just looked at their prices at the moment. A 1lb honey jar is around 37p, but shipping is what brings the cost up. My last order of 360 jars cost £45 to ship.

    Jars prices on the rise

Luckily, I ordered 360 10oz jars in the spring. I still have some 1lb and 8oz jars too. This years crop was not as good as last year, so I hope to be okay for a while.

    A beekeepers christmas day

We are off to Lewes for a Christmas family thing this weekend. My dad is then off to my brothers place in France. Covid variants permitting of course. We're at 'Billy the dog's' house on Christmas day, with my partners mum and brother. Billy will go crazy with excitement as usual running...

What have you had under your roof?

Last year at the farm I had a few mice causing trouble. This year I think that they spread the word, as I have had all manner of problems! They seem to like nibbling the poly hives, if they are too low to the ground. I also had a couple of empty, nucs almost destroyed along with a Paradise...

    Abelo metal adjustable stand

All far too posh for me. :giggle: I scavenge pallets and any old bits of wood. I construct mainly one and two hive benches. I also make bigger ones that can take about four nucs.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

    Mine......a little over a metre.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I use netting on one of my allotment apiaries. It makes the bees come in and out at height. People can actually watch my bees a few feet away from the hive entrances without being attacked!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Not so much apiary work. Yesterday I finished bottling that last honey. I produced 115 10 oz jars. Some have been labelled, but I'm holding off labelling half of it until I know what I'm doing with them. The farm shop do not buy in large amounts as they used too, due to 'storage problems.'...
