When and how did you start beekeeping?

Yer right there! I'm nearly 64 and am beginning to sound more like my father, when getting up from a chair

What did you do in the Apiary today?

The farm bees were battened down yesterday. The biggest fear is any trees falling. I don't think that "Billy the Dog" will get his Friday walk up through the woods today!

When and how did you start beekeeping?

I never thought to keep bees when I lived in and around Lewes. I was mainly a landscaper and gardener then. Strange really, as I did maintain a garden with two hives in it. The bees never bothered me, but seemed to sting everyone else at various times! A traumatic change in my life...

What's flowering as forage in your area

LOTS of crocus and snowdrops out. Daffodils are sprouting too. I went to the farm today to 'batten down the hatches.' The hives may not get blown over, but it won't stop a tree falling on them. It's one of the perils of being in a wood! The bees were quite active.

    Ethnicity of beekeepers

As far as I know, Birmingham is very diverse in its beekeeping population. I have a French friend who actually has two hives on one of my apiaries. I know a Slovakian beekeeper that is near to another apiary of mine. Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and many other religions keep bees in...

    Plans for planting

Just remembered this plan for a 'bee-garden.' I think it was in a box of books I bought at an auction years ago. The other picture shows that Spring is just around the corner. My allotment bees are bringing in their first pollen of the year! I think it's possibly Yew tree pollen.

    Plans for planting

I had this seasons seeds delivered over the weekend :laughing-smiley-014 Mainly vegetables and herbs. My partner deals with the flower side of our growing operations. My main seed order comes from a company called Seed Parade.

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Yes.....lovely! Sarah Cox on Radio 2 last week had a 'what do your hands smell of today?' feature. Strange I know, plus rather a chancy topic I thought. The irony for me was that my hands were too oily and waxy to touch my phone to call in! :icon_204-2:

Sale now on Cedar boxes £13.50

Yep.....that's about it! I relayed witnessed info, about an incident, in good faith. Someone, VERY new, says it was wrong and never happened. Then someone else......also new.....backs them. Then my post is taken down! Apparently, I'd been 'found out' or something. There was no ID on who...

    Giving up bee keeping!

DON'T GIVE UP! This is what I did........ I wanted to expand my bee-interests, but live in the middle of Birmingham. I had hives on an allotment, but could not keep more than half a dozen there in reality. So I looked at a map of the area that I wanted to keep bees in. I marked out six...

    Frames without foundation

I am looking into producing high quality comb. It is worth a lot more than honey, so would not mind losing a few honey productive hives. Using foundation-less frames will guarantee that the wax produced is the best possible quality from the start?

    Beekeepers Professions

When 'The Great Storm' happened in '87 I was already doing a fair amount of tree work along with landscaping. After that night I spent nearly two years scrabbling around in trees, hanging off ropes etc.. I ended up with around half a dozen people working for me at one point. It was a crazy time!

    Beekeepers Professions

This chap turned up in my garden last week. He's an Asil Game **** that I named 'Chicken George.' Not yer average chicken! After a few days he decided that the garden was his and reverted to form by attacking me every time I went outside. He had to go. He should count himself lucky that my...

    Jars prices on the rise

The moderator that took down my reply. I will get back to the people that told me of this. Caught out was I, in what way? I was told about this in good faith. If I find that the intell was false, I will apologise, unlike many people on here do when they are 'caught out!'

    Jars prices on the rise

Oh well.....ok then. I'm not one to spread malicious gossip. I just stupidly repeated what I was told. As for my issue with the SBBKA.....I've 'wittered' on enough about it on here, as I dare say JBM would concur!
