That stuff that he says is broken looks like a lot of old junk.

Austrian Bees article in New York Times

This is a nice video about Slovenian bee keeping. These painted bee houses look good. It is not very clear how they function.

Its a plastic test tube. Probably a gesture to make up for the lack of seeds.

God I love growing our own

He grows some interesting salad crops in his cold greenhouses. I hadn't noticed those different mustard varieties before. I am going to try those if I can buy the seeds.

Charles Dowding is demonstrating similar work in his latest video on spring planting. He has broad beans in flower that he planted in December. My beans are not flowering yet and I am located more than 1000miles further south.

What are the rats doing? I have them in the greenhouse. The only damage they do is eat tomatoes that are near the ground. I have voles too and they are worse.

No it is a small sweet pepper. I get the first fruit in June compared with July or August for other peppers. I think it would do well in a UK greenhouse or polytunnel.

You are dead right about onions. I bought some heirloom shishito sweet pepper seed from the US that are very early fruiting and producttive. I expect they might do well in the UK. I grew a a very sweet squash last year Marina di Chioggia. Not very productive though.

I had the same thing last year with onions. I think seed quality has gone down since the Covid. I wonder if they are saving money by packing old seed that they have had in storage for years. I have started saving seeds and it seems to be working pretty well.

I wonder if I might get a visit from the police. There is a station not far from my flat.

I pulp surplus tomatoes and put them in 1kg jars for winter use. I also make a lot of sweet tomato chutney. The Roma variety are productive and dont need supports. I am not sure how useful the Roma variety are in the UK.

I am growing 100 tomato plants under grow lamps in the house. I transfer them to a cold greenhouse after the last frost. I am growing chicco(early small variety), red pear, marzanino and roma.

Where do you buy your seeds?

I had good success with Premier Seeds Sungold tomatoes and Rising Sun sweetcorn. They no longer ship to the EU. I saved a lot of seeds last year. A few I saved were F1. I am curious to see how they turn out. I might create a new variety of sweetcorn. I saved 500g of broad bean seed. Germination...

    Battery Strimmer

You might think that there would be an international standard for Li batteries. It seems we have a free for all.

    Battery Strimmer

I have a Ryobi 18V strimmer but it is too feeble. Also quite heavy. The robbers were not impressed either and didnt take it. The Ryobi 18v chainsaw is very good.

    Battery Strimmer

Thanks for your replies. It looks like a 40V strimmer is roughly equivalent to a 35cc petrol model.

    Battery Strimmer

Someone stole my old Husqvarna 35cc petrol strimmer last night. I was thinking of replacing it with an electric battery model. Does anyone have experience of these. I need something with similar power.

    Aerated blocks for hive stand

Thanks for your opinions. As Garry R points out the cost is low so not much to lose. They will be standing on a wooden floor and protected from the rain and sun. I would prefer metal stands but the cost is quite high.
