    Soap making using essential oils

Evidently if you use Thyme for your soap and provide a paddling pool on the entrance to bathe every individual bee, it prevents Varroa!

    Robbing Wasps

Not really as they will often miss the first frame.

    Beevac

Bee vacs are excellent for swarm collection and extraction I’m not sure I’d go to the expense of 1 for a single job. All versions I’ve seen are based on some form of hoover and then additional bits….so what did you get

    Robbing Wasps

Morning or evening I’m not sure they are more active but it may be the case the bees are less active! Wasps will operate in temperatures lower than bees. So none guarding the front door? It’s often the case on cold Autumn mornings with the bees tightly clustered wasps will have a free ride at...

It may not exist but most of us are aware what is meant.

Advice on varroa treatment in nuc

Good you’ve got the kit. In late December you are very likely brood less, oxalic will only kill varroa outside of cells. So during a brood less period only a single application is required. If possible I’d leave any treatment till autumn API Guard does work but can be very variable. Use it and a...

Advice on varroa treatment in nuc

I’d suggest with your over zealous winter treatment on the donating colony in most instances you should be fine till autumn. Late December treatments need only be a single application of OA. I certainly wouldn’t treat with apistan again and if using strips use apivar. I’d leave unless you start...

Thymol Based Entrance Block for Varroa

Amazingly those areas of the world that can produce Thyme honey by the tanker load and millions of bees foraging on it……..Errrrrr still have Varoa😂😂😂😂😂

Swarm catching devices and extendable poles.

I’ve a Silky pole and they are excellent but expensive!

Use fruit coke jam….. yes I’ve seen that adding vinegar works but not added it myself. Any fruit past it’s best and chopped up also helps when it all starts fermenting!

Secondary swarm still in tree after more than a week…

They say they produce Raw Honey so I’m dubious already😂

Spraying Apple cider vinegar over honey bees

Spraying them with water or house hold dust will likely have a limited effect😂

Spraying Apple cider vinegar over honey bees

Vinegar will not prevent varroa nor planting peppermint around your hive prevent mites entering. I’m not sure how you are getting this information but I’d seriously question the validity of the source!

Don’t put sugar syrup in traps it will attract bees.

    Keeping honey runny over winter?

Honey won’t expand as much as water. Store your honey in buckets as most of us do. Then you’ll have to melt to bottle or bottle in unlabelled jars and heat those. You don’t need a dedicated freezer and the space it consumes keep an eye out for those Lidl jam makers they take buckets or a dozen...

    Apiguard and hive management

As above…… Varroa are extremely unlikely to build resistance to both of those treatments. If you wished you could alternate both of those with chemical strip type treatments like Apivar. But obviously continue to use the oxalic in winter. I actually doubt alternating chemicals has much effect...

Do you extract honey from frames that have been brooded in?

Its states Honey is to be obtained from broodless combs!!!!!!!!!!…………..it does not say you can’t use combs that have ever contained brood! Even comb honey says broodless combs and rather significantly by its absence any reference to comb that has contained brood previously. Any suggestions...

    Robbing Wasps

An easy fix for an entrance is also just to make a tunnel 15-18 mm pipe is good. You want it about 60mm-70mm long is practical and useful!
