    Making an observation hive

Yep zero difference (the laugh icon was the friendly clue ;) ) Anyway, something else (bit different) but very cool. Yet to put bees into it, you could make or purchase one of these from Germany.

    Making an observation hive

Pipe through the wall (top near wall bracket) the unit swings on the bracket from viewing both sides and the unseen side has a hinged door rather than allen bolts. The unit does not rotate.

    Making an observation hive

Thanks, standard frames (nothing special) feeder is a simple jar on top of the unit (when required). Glass is armoured and frame is built like a tank, the whole thing is bolted to the wall. One thing to note, you may have issues around temps if this is kept in an unheated shed.

    Abelo steam wax melter

I've just had one delivered (very good), fitted a 10kw commercial burner with 19kg Propane tank, stuck the lot on a trolly. I'll use this for pre-wired frames, nucs/mating hives and national parts. Also wax using a commercial pot placed inside. Great kit, very well made.

    Making an observation hive

I've a perm 4 frame display/obb hive in the study, requires managing but fine all year. Had it made in oak to my spec (not cheap) will drop some pics on here. It'll have a perm welcome soon 24/7 via my website.

    Lost Nuc

Remove the wax/comb and melt down (as above might not be worth it), bin/burn the frames (unless pre-wired) - if so boil and re-wax etc. Clean/treat the box

    New book on Apideas

Looks very good, quick look at the links - does the book cover adding virgins directly with the scoop of bees? (rather than adding a cell and leaving in the dark for 3 days?) reason I ask, tried that last year and worked fine so wanted to check this was not just luck. I'm a big fan of these...

    Surprising dead-out

Poorly mated late superseded queen? - Queen in image 2 looks unmarked (was she marked), lack of winter bees/drone layer, varroa did the rest.

    Masks/filters for oxalic

Agreed but I'm more interested in the ASTM E2952 standard being safe and assume (being Global) and from the USA (they label everything) should be fine for our needs? So sticking with UK/our certs and being 100% safe (as far as we can trust UK standards) as a gold standard and protecting all...

    Masks/filters for oxalic

Just to add a little more detail to this - It states filter grade at P-A-3 - P-A-3 Dual Filter Set - Combination Organic Vapor and Particulate Filter - ASTM Tested (Replaces T-61 & PD-101 Masks) ASTM tested E2952 - 17 Standards (NIOSH certification application pending) The mask is well made*...

    Masks/filters for oxalic

Compare the negative effects OA vs VA, varroa wipes out colonies (Managing Varroa Mites in Honey Bee Colonies) Effects on larvae are not an issue if the timing is right, even then it'll be minimal. Anyway the thread is meant to be discussing masks, might be better to fire up another thread.

Sold Abelo 12 Frame National Poly Hive - unpainted (new)

Hi, Standard 12 Frame v3 (floor/brood/x2 supers/CW/Roof etc) Purchased to look over and test, never used. £150 Thanks

    Paradise or abelo poly national.

I use the deep roof and broods (no supers) and the shorter entrance floor from the V2 hive (plus feeder as perm CB), great units. After testing just about every national poly hive on the market. Moved these about a fair bit last year, zero issues and robust.
