What's flowering as forage in your area

3 days into the Cambrian Way. As I walked out along the Glamorgan Canal several large (huge) clusters of dog rose - I smelt them before seeing them. And all mixed in with loads of bramble (does that have a smell?). Anyway warm day - not an insect to be seen. Well not a flying one anyway 🙁 Neil BIAB

Any recommendations for a good be brush?

My bees hate (really really hate) being brushed. I now use a folded handful of grass.

How late would you do splits?

Early to really know - but brood wise I seem to have a cracking (though ugly) queen from my recent walk away.

Some say you can form some sort inference about brood status - others disagree.

Do yours move barely a jot on the being inspected comb?

    The New Bees

One of the things I try to notice in my hives are how ‘calm on the combs’ my bees are. So far I’ve experience of three queens and have been able to tell the difference with one queen in particular producing very ‘runny’ bees. But I’ve liked the other 2 - both my single bought in ‘starter’ queen...

    Is this a way forward?

My favourite queen (I just like her!) brood is starting to look a bit spotty - she was a mid summer supersedure after a walk away split last year. I think they may have tried to supersede her again this early spring but I tore the cell down (naively and immediately regretted it). I want a...
