Hive moved away from apiary - what to do about the flying bees?

I gave a hive away to someone who is very distant. Question is about the returning flying bees that couldn't be kept with it: in order not to lose them should I collect them in a new empty hive on the old site then reunite with a neighbouring queenright hive, or just leave them to find a new...

    Extractor problem

I have one like this. You can fit 8 super frames in it radially.

Drawing a super for winter stores

The honey in the super is far more expensive, if ripe, than sugar or fondant so not profitable or necessary to use a super

If you want to use a mains supply, at £15 delivered these are perfect.

Oxalic acid Vapouriser using a car battery charger

Not enough power output; chargers are usually about 4 A max but you need about 10 A for the vap.

    Formic Acid shelf life

Shelf live is forever if kept in those conditions, but formic acid does kill a lot of bees too.

    Extractor wobble

To reduce wobble when unloaded it helps if you can balance the cage with a small (stainless steel) weight attached somehere. Support the cage horizontally on a knife edge at each end and fix the weight so the cage doesn't want to settle in one position. In any case rollers on the feet will help...

    Adding honey supers ad infinitum

Exactly, so if the honey is ripe and they're still bringing it in, extract and return, rather than shifting 5 full supers to inspect.

    Adding honey supers ad infinitum

Don't see the point of keeping full capped supers on the hive when there are 3 or more supers on. How can you inspect every week without breaking your back, and it's a waste of super boxes just sitting there. Extract and return if necessary.

    This year's honey price

You have done well. Selling at the door here only attracts about 10 jar sales a year and at only £5 a 12 oz jar.

    extractor recommendation /advice

One of these and these. Total cost with spinner £180.

    extractor recommendation /advice

I've one of these and it's very good. I've modfied the cage to take 8 super frames and now added a motor for £50.

    This year's honey price

8p per jar? surely you don't mean that?

    Effectiveness of air freshener

Don't have any air freshener as the air here is fresh enough. Will deodorant do?

Collapsed super comb with wired foundation: bottom wire lugs nailed?

Yes a real mess when the frames burst. In future I'll staple the bottoms of the foundation, but I'll probably only use FL anyway.

    Spring honey crop

45kg from one of the hives so far, still 3 fullish supers on it and filling. Another hive not far behind. All light, very tasty, no OSR.

    Comb honey/Foundationless frames

No need for wax; I've never used it and comb gets drawn fine
