There's none so blind as those who will not see.

Savers still has it at 89p/kg.

    Crown board ventilation over winter

Plenty of poly insulation in skips, or ask on freegle; plenty of people have spare from building work. Avoids yet more landfill.

    Wasps nibbling polyhive

Yes water-based masonry paint works, because once dry, it no longer lets water through (of course). You can of course use any other.

    Wasps nibbling polyhive

I had a similar problem, but by painting the inside of the feeder tray it stops syrup soaking into the poly which is what attracts wasps from the outside.

Amazing what price visitors will pay in that neck of the woods!

Opinions on the effective doseage of OA and Api-Bioxal sublimation for varroa ?

Probably a lot less tha 2.5g each time as only a small amount is enough to create plenty of OA vapour and enough to saturate a hive which you can determine when vapour starts coming out from a crack made under the crown board.

    Acetic acid question

The strength of any acid is clearly defined and measured chemically and is not a matter of opinion, though some people have weird ideas about anything.

    Acetic acid question

I have defined it but if you're too lazy to look at the reference.........

    Acetic acid question

Acetic acid is no problen with poly. After all it is similar, but 3000 times weaker than Oxalic and we use that on poly with gay abandon. See here

    Randy Oliver OA sponges

If we were still in the EU many would be blaming them, so now it's time to drop the trousers as they say in Germany.

What's flowering as forage in your area

Several fields of buckwheat near me in flower now. Supposed to be very good for the bees but have yet to notice a strong flow even in this hot weather

Thanks, well I've used the towel version for several years and found it effective, though it's probably more effective at some times of the year than others and depends on the colony; some colonies chew them up quickly but not others.

that's interesting. What did you use, the towels or sponges and when?

    Need help with honey tubs

50% of my customers want soft set honey, and I, like others I know, don't like gritty crystallised honey. If you don't have any oil seed **** in the area then honey is more likely to stay liquid, but early honey here usually has some in and sets within a month or so.

    Need help with honey tubs

Ok but even with only a few hives, jarring straight away often means the honey crystallises before you can sell/use it especially early in the season. In buckets you can then more easily remelt it and/or make soft set.

    Need help with honey tubs

Amazed that with all your experience you haven't done this before! The lids just come off with a simple lift under the flap where the slot is. I have a few buckets with gates that I can decant into as needed. The plastic gates are available at low cost and can be fitted easily. There is...

    Jars query

44p for 1lb jars from the local BKA. But only 35p for 300ml at hobbycraft at present. Mine is supposed to be a hobby but given the size of the crop this year I can't even give that much away and I'm not going to unnecessarily waste the income on jars.

Those are almost half the price of elsewhere, so also got some. Pity I bought 350 elsewhere last week
