    Dumb meter, dumb company

A lot of ignorance here, and of course wild conspiracy theories.

    Oxalic acid

Anhydrous oxalic acid doesn't form crystals

    Oxalic acid

Yes, the 2 water molecules are needed to form the crystals, no crystals without them

Is not removing the QX a big risk?

An empty super over a QE is the warmest place but if the Queen (and bees) cannot go there it's a bad idea in winter. They want to be as near to the top as possible, so best to nadir the super.

    Thin to thick

The bees will definitely notice if it's 1.9:1 and not 2.000:1

    Oxalic acid

Good for you. So what is all the fuss about not selling to individuals? See the other thread. The statement that "Outside of the specified products, members of the public who want to import, acquire, possess, or use the regulated chemicals must hold an Explosives Precursors and Poisons (EPP)...

    Dihydrate means they are crystals

    Jar Prices 2024.

Last week when I bought them they were 3 for 2 so £18 for 36, plus £5 off. Seems the 3 for 2 has been stopped, but has been on for most of the summer so worth watching again in case it's repeated. I already have a few hundred of them.

    Jar Prices 2024.

No, Hobbycraft are the cheapest at present, especially for hexagonal 280 ml jars at 36p each for 36. My customers love 'em, selling more this year than before despite higher selling price.

    Labels

Just use Microsoft Word, or similar word processor, to create pages in label format, with your own pictures etc. You can then get pre-cut pages of labels e.g. 3x7 per page and print them direct.

    Oxalic Acid

I've just bought 1kg crystals from APC Pure for £15.85 delivered.

Chalk brood or something fouler 🫤

Can't be sure after the first vape as this is my out apiary and I had brought the wrong OMF tray that time so could only put it on the ground underneath, but didn't seem too excessive. Will see better this time.

Chalk brood or something fouler 🫤

The hive was first vaped 6 days ago and again yesterday. There are lots of healthy bees in the hive; this frame has been partly cleared for the photo and probably shows a much higher proportion of bees with DWV than elsewhere. Thanks for the comments. I'll keep on vaping and see how it goes...

Chalk brood or something fouler 🫤

I have a similar question: This problem has recently appeared in one of my hives. Not much brood at present but what there is has this. Is it also Chalkbrood?

    Organic varroa treatments

Not supplied from the UK so they can sell any rubbish.

Weak Stores in Brood Box, Strong Super on top

They can survive anything on syrup. Don't you want the honey?
  17. R

    Areboss honey extractor.

I have one and found it generally excellent for the price. But why buy it there when it's cheaper direct? Like all extractors, it could be improved and I've modified mine, for example to take 8 super frames.
  18. R

    Cleaning after wax moth.

No need to waste frames. Acetic acid placed in a bowl in a sealed hive is a cheap and simple method to fumigate the lot and kill wax moth.
  19. R

    Renewing/replacing comb without waste.

You clearly have not read the subject which is ".. without waste". Wasting frames that are not old and making new frames to replace them is a lot of "faffing about". Cutting out old wax is certainly much easier and new wax to replace it is almost always drawn as well as that with foundation.

    Renewing/replacing comb without waste.

If it isn't that old why burn it? Why not just cut out the old comb and let them build new comb?
