    Wimberries/Bilberries

Every year in this part of Gods Country there is a competition between Maerdy and Ferndale over where the best wimberries are found. Each village claims the bragging rights for their own patch, been going on for years. When I was in the RAF I picked some Bilberries on a heath near RAF Odiham...

When bees won't leave you alone...

I have the same problem with Buckfasts where I live... If I let them rear their own Q their offspring are really nasty. The Buckfasts I have had seem to be very "swarmy", and in my early days as a beek I missed the clues/preps that the bees were getting ready to swarm..

    Plant grafting tape

I always used ordinary cellotape when i was doing a lot of grafting.. It would be a good idea to use some "splints" to secure the break. I often used knitting needles.

    Requeen every year

The worst "types" were the ones with "Buckfast" in them. Tried a Q from a reputable dealer who said there was no "Buckfast" in the "genetics". I raised a Q from her shortly after I received her. The daughters offspring were real beasts. We have a problem beek locally that delibretly keeps...

    Requeen every year

I have to buy in new queens, if I allow the most strains of bees raise their own Q then I always get a problems with fiesty bees which are difficult to work with...I have found that, locally, the Qs I get from Ricky Wilson are best for my area. I can let them raise a new Q ( they usually...

    Potatoes

I also don't like/use chemicals.. Slug nematodes are small worms that burrow into slugs and eat them from the inside, they are present in soil naturally.

    Potatoes

It was sold as being 100% immune to blight... It failed completely. I can't grow any spuds in the plot I tried it in since, and that was over 10 years ago! I believe it was "bred" in Hungary.
