    Honey authenticity (again)

Confession. Until I started keeping bees, I bought supermarket stuff so accepted the taste and smell as genuine. I "didn't care" as In my head then, a jar should cost say £1.50 and it tasted like honey or so I thought. A few generations have moved away from "the farm" and the vast majority of...

Got myself in a mess. Trying to sort it.

Me too except that I make a quick phone video so I can also see what I'm babbling about! Dead easy to come back to base and cuppa in hand, quickly transcribe it into note form. I've tried the record sheets but as I've 10 or less hives, I like keeping a ledger and being verbose.

Equipment Wanted Newbie looking for 2 national hives

Do have a go at assembling Thorne sale seconds. They have ***** proof, step-by-step online guides which actually make sense. I found that by building my hives it really got me to understand how they worked in 3D all the quicker. Ps my utility room has a small squared "graph paper" pattern on...

Mrs Nasty finally dispatched. Now what?

That's an interesting bit of kit. If only I'd ever have a stack of supers like that. Wow.

Mrs Nasty finally dispatched. Now what?

Just dropping back here to give an update on my lively bees and their requeening. In the end I divided off the flying bees with a single frame as suggested and left them a single queen cell which should be emerging around today. OK it'll be a long shot to get anything worthwhile from them but...

    New vaper convert confusion

Please go easy on this as I'll sound like a right numptie! I know OF no-one in my circle of beeks who vapes oxalic acid. Up till now I've been going through a rotation of various brands of treatment strips in early autumn followed by a winter oxalic acid trickle. I find the removal of the...

    Honey Cake Recipes

I've written that recipe into my book so am planning a batch of wheaten loaves with a honey cake in the next few days. It sounds lovely especially with ginger. Thanks to everyone for sharing.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I agree about the honey benefits. Read something recently (where?) That it's maybe even the honey compounds rather than pollen content that's key but hey if it works it's great. I'm so many return customers who almost panic now if they can't get their annual stash in so something's going on...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Half pound = 227g. All the local prices I quoted were that. Friend just spotted a v posh grocer's here doing the local honey 227g for £10. I mean...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Sun came out after a stormy morning so I headed up to my mountain spot and split my "bees from hell" then went to the nearby allotments to check on another queenless nuc - I've queens arriving shortly so fingers crossed. Sold the last of my 280 honey jars (from 3 colonies) - I increased my half...

    Nut allergy labelling

In my teaching days we had one lass (now a doctor!) with a severe nut allergy. The "lovely" group of boys who resented her academic skills used to deliberately walk past her eating mouthfuls of nuts and blowing on her despite nuts actually being banned on-site. No amount of assemblies, talks...

Mrs Nasty finally dispatched. Now what?

Michael yes. I'm sorted thank you. I was getting prepared to do your fail safe "sieve" method which has been so useful in the past and which Ive shsred with a few fellow beeks here. As it was she just appeared in front of me. Ta-da! I generally have calm bees but inherited these loonies and...

Mrs Nasty finally dispatched. Now what?

I'd best not. I'll just try another source and spread my risk.
