How to set up for winter

Whilst we can give suggestions from what you’ve described part of beekeeping is judging from what you can actually see yourself. Nothing with bees is really set in stone!! With the single box colony at the very least I’d push empty or in drawn frames up against the brood area pushing store...

    Extraction cut off date?

Not in this part of Surrey😡

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Lol….. welcome to the real world, next time try it on a big colony that’s shall we say defensive and a miserable day😂

    No stores mid July

I’d suggest taking the super off and feeding. Brood will start reducing and they should start back filling the empty cells. They’ll only make honey if there’s an income/forage what’s in your area?.. it’s entirely likely there won’t be much until the ivy flowers. I’d feed a couple of litres of...

    converting National nuc to Langstroth

I think he’s doing it for the beginner!

    National Nuc to Langstroth Hive

You could simply run a knife around the national frames then strap/band the comb into a lang frame. Lang width is wider but depth is similar. Alternatively take a lang box put a sheet of ply on top go a little over size, then a nuc body on top. Cut a hole that corresponds with the nuc box...

Tropical forest down pour with a spray gun!

    uncapped brood situation

As above I can’t see any signs of brood disease there. Pictures of grubs in cells would be good though.

    Dadant or Thorne Empire

Water spray works to a point. However I would not send any beginner out to look at bees without a smoker. Sensible use of smoke is far more effective and has proved so for hundreds of years. If it’s not escaped your notice bees are not dogs!

Bees For Sale What's the going rate for a nuc or full sized colony?

I strongly suspect you couldn’t charge enough to cover some😂

    Shook swarm to donate bees

I take it you’ve got other hives to spread the excess frames about in?…..As above if there’s some older comb ie that’s had brood in then it’s relatively easy to attach at least a few frames worth to the top bars. I’d avoid a straight shook swarm your beginner would have to put some effort into...

Best way to re-queen "Hot" hive?

Newspaper unites are normally pretty safe, but I’d place the queen right on top. Purely because you haven’t got all those stroppy older foreign bees passing through the brood nest of the queen right colony. Thats just my thinking/logic I've nothing to base it on!

    Dadant or Thorne Empire

Just get the big dadant if you have more than a couple of hives and forget the rest.

Does Wasp Bane contain a pheromone?

The maker does make the odd appearance here, funny often enough around this point in the season😂

    Old Thornes Honey Spinner question

Have you spoken to thornes…….the main suppliers are generally happy to help and may even have parts?

Pink tips showing on the heather around me, guessing another week before any flowers appear. I’ll be moving some this weekend or early next week.
