    Revenge of the wasps

Take a plastic water type bottle….. cut the top few inches off….. invert into rest of bottle. Run some tape around the cut edges toe seal. Fill with a couple of inches of your liquid bait.

    Revenge of the wasps

Just a simple bottle top up turned with some duct tape to close any holes… it’s nothing complicated but they work!

    Revenge of the wasps

Whilst many have not recommended traps in an apiary or have discussed what is or isn’t a high efficiency trap😉 if I place a load of traps in an apiary I remove the issue. I’ve very rarely seen any wasp get out a well made bottle trap and over the years it’s worked.

    Ejected Queen

I’d have a look, see if there is emergency cells or any empty emerged cells. If it’s a supercedure it could have happened some time ago though. Don’t hang around and don’t tear them apart, just a quick in and out. If there are qcells pick a couple destroy the rest and leave them to it!

    Extractor wobble

Most commercial guys I’ve seen simply bolt to the floor and obviously balance as much as possible. I’ve seen some of those rubber door stops drilled out and placed between.

Bees Will Do The Strangest Things

So yesterday afternoon I noticed a small swarm down by my hives/nucs. Not being to concerned and due to inspect today I left them to it. I started looking through the nucs some have been up and running for some time and I thought perhaps 1 had swarmed, I’d checked the bush they had been buzzing...

As said previously how confident are you they are queen less

    robbers at my hive

The frame of stores with bees removed is not likely to have started the robbing more likely the act of opening them up if your main flow has stopped, all those bored foragers have little else to do…. The last thing I’d do unless in dire need is give them a feed. That really will ring the dinner...

    European hornets entering my hives

That doesn’t look like a busy entrance I’d reduce a half inch on each corner if you’re having issues and more if they continue. Beekeepers appear obsessed with fiddling with the front door bees manage just fine with a minimal entrance even in peak periods!

    European hornets entering my hives

Reduce you entrances for a start, and whilst hornets taking the odd be is of little concern prevention in the first place is the best course of action.

Queen Rearing - first go Grafting...

Good on you for having a go! The Chinese tools are pretty crap but bar a fine art brush I find they are the best at doing the job. Just buy lots they are cheap unless brought from certain suppliers😂 Try bending or getting a slight curve on the quill. Simply apply some pressure and bend at the...

    Extractor wobble

As has been said previously pay attention when loading it really becomes second nature. Start slowly before building up speed. I bolt mine to half a sheet of ply that you can stand on whilst extracting, there is no wobble😂

    The National Uncapper

Hi Does it work on deep frames

    Ejected Queen

Either she’s been kicked out and there’s every likelihood there is a replacement already in the hive, perhaps even laying. Or she was lost out side during your inspection and fiddling with floor/entrance. If she’s damaged you’ll probably find a load of emergency cells next inspection, so pick a...

    Cleaning out a brood box.

Never worried about putting bees in new boxes, and I doubt a swarm moving into a new cavity worries about propolis. They’ll soon add it!!! In a beekeepers managed give I’d guess there’s 101 things you could do first to improve a hive’s survival.

    Cleaning out a brood box.

Most of us settle for a blow torch and scrape I’ve used a paint stripper/hot air gun in the past…For a general clean I’m sure you’ve done more than enough. Dettol imo would be a pretty pointless addition.

    F0 Breeder Queen

The term F0 queen is I believe fairly recent and not liked by some? Although I think it’s self explanatory. In terms of a Carni or a Buckfast you’re dealing with a line bred or pure race queen. The added value of these queens from proper breeders using known lines is they are used to produce F1...
