How Do You Inspect Your Double Brood

During swarm season (nearly over now) you will need to check every frame carefully but you should be ok with new queens at least until next year. You can put a piano hinge on and open the boxes like a car bonnet. I just put the roof down on the floor for the supers and the crownboard to put the...

Making soft set honey from extracted OSR

I use a diamond core drill with a 13mm chuck and paddle mixer for soft set. I have one customer who buys loads but not many others like it.

Do you extract honey from frames that have been brooded in?

As per Dodge-not forgetting the insecticide and diesel particulate that gets traipsed in of course. Back in the mid 80's you would even factor in some radioactivity from Ukraine. A good conclusion would be ignorance is bliss.

Do you extract honey from frames that have been brooded in?

There is a lot of interest in insect protein based food and locusts swarms being a major problem in some continents its got to the stage of product like burgers offered in shops. Just look up the brood cycle of the fig wasp Think twice about eating that fruit.....

    Freezing tubs

I got some wide shallow rectangular lidded buckets from Solent Plastics so I could get a supply of crystalised ready quickly for soft set. They fit really well in the fridge and the temperature can penetrate effectively. Id imagine the same would be true for freezing it.

Your advice, opinions and comments would be very much appreciated.

Bee gym: Manufacture and distribution contributes to the economy -and also to pollution and climate change. It's another art of the Ipm -and also another piece of kit that will need cleaning and sterilising. As Enrico suggests ,your bees will very already have an infestation which you will...

    DiY homey spinner

Far better option. You're spinning frames because you want to harvest the honey rather than distribute it around the walls, clothing and floor doing an R&D project.

    Embossed foundation

I think they just draw what they want when they want. I had one sheet of worker foundation perfectly drawn as drone earlier this season while the foundationless frame put in for that purpose was perfect worker drawn.

Honey Room - design hints and tips

For some inexplicable reason I once installed fibreglass loft insulation on the hottest July weekend possible. I still have Vietnam-style flashbacks. But given the choice between that and extraction day Id be up the ladder like a scalded monkey.

    (Other) flying insects

Wasps beginning to make an appearance. Thankfully my (ex?)cbpv hive has its floor back. European Hornets seem a little more plentiful this year -I actually have a quiet admiration for them.
