Advice for re-queening and aggressive hive

Well done But once she's released as said above leave them well alone. Extra layer of thick clothing under the suit is what I do if dealing with monsters and nitrile gloves under industrial type marigolds. Fear is a healthy thing but It can get in the way. I welcome the odd nip as it maintains...

    European hornets entering my hives

The hight of the entrance sounds too much It only needs to be passable to drones and queens. EH is a comparatively big beast. They're a way lot less of a problem than wasps and usually take the minimum they need to survive. Really not that bad to have around. Wait for AH before reaching for...

    The National Uncapper

Wilco; "Hard to be sure if the cut width is adequate for full extraction without such a comparison" Are the blades on the rollers offset to each other or aligned? I was thinking if they were offset you could turn the frame 180 degrees and put it back in and get at least one cut over every cell.

Oxalic acid Vapouriser using a car battery charger

There's plenty of 10 amp and above on the Amazon or ebay but Id avoid the Smart type for that job. If you're into tinkering then an old desktop computer Psu in a weatherproof (but still vented) enclosure will provide plenty of amps Use the yellow and black wires for 12 volt These things have...

    Extractor wobble

But that means the machine is absorbing the stresses itself. If you can get it loaded well enough to stay still on castors then the stresses are released without long term damage to leg joints and bearings My machine has to see out my beekeeping days....

If you don't put the frames in reasonably horizontal will it chew the Hoffman lobes?

One frame of honey…best thing to do

It would have to be really warm to drip drain. If you're twirling it in a bag be careful of the ornaments. Bag

So far so good Martin -the first hurdle is always a forum-savaging pile-on which you appear to have jumped....

One frame of honey…best thing to do

Or cut a spoon sized chunk off the bottom corner-they will readily rebuild it if they feel the need. Are you worried it will be obnoxious? It wont. Be patient:)

    Extractor wobble

I have braked castors but a badly loaded basket too fast will have them release themselves and the whole rig pursues me around the room until I manage to get it cornered. Mine is a 12f Konigin which runs absolutely still at top speed when unloaded. I think something is amiss with that one you...

    Formic Acid shelf life

In my findings it is absolutely 100% effective against varroa as it makes sure the host is completely eradicated too.;)

    Weather

Fifteen inspections in the rain this morning. Bees a lot less bothered about it than I was.

And OSR that sneaks into the second crop. I'd put an order in right now! How is it cleaned?

    Cleaning out a brood box.

I'll flame to get into the waxmoth eggs and larvae on timber boxes. Running the torch along metal frame runners always produces that toasty protein aroma... Propolis?-they'll soon make more.

Surely it’s 8 or 9 weeks rather than 6 for big improvement

The change can be immediate but not necessarily a whole lot better in some instances. The last new nuc I built was stocked from some feral shockers and took the full term to cease the behaviour. They would be at the van windows before the ignition was turned off.

    Signs of accepted caged queen?

As JBM said ,strap the lid down and leave well alone now or they may turn on her.

    Keeping honey runny over winter?

Ditto -we used to harvest the "Ice cream" waiting for the school bus and rip the foil up so the birds took the blame. Dedicated freezer is absolutely critically essential to avoid territorial disputes And no dinner. :(

How Do You Inspect Your Double Brood

If you can afford to lose a swarm by not checking then well done to you. Lets all hope your neighbours can afford to have one removed from their chimney.....

    How long do varroa live

If it's going in outbuildings you might get lucky but you will need to be aware that most newer ones now may not work properly at below 10c ambient temp. Check the climate class on the plate 10-32°C: SN 16-32°C: N 16-38°C: ST 16-43°C: T I 've had loads off Freecycle and only one ( a really...

    Apiguard and hive management

Ditto One course when the honey comes off in August, one course after Autumn feed and a single dose in the last week of December when there's just sht on the telly. Got some appallingly weak feral queens through several winters so there has to be something in it.
