What did you do in the Apiary today?

Ditto. All hives and nucs are light on stores so they all had a good feed of heavy syrup this week. The only heavy hive is a double brood with the top box weighing a ton!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

If it’s any consolation, I always found it tricky to judge when the temperature was right with my GasVap.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Ditto. Nearly all the supers I left on are half empty at best.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Vaping and feeding today. Sadly lost a nuc as although good for stores last week, went in today and a dead out. First colony I’ve had from starvation but surprised at how fast this happened. They were very heavy on last check but we seem to suddenly have a lot of wasps at home which is very...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Just back from a week in the IOW so nipped to the out apiary to do another round of vaping. One hive had a queen last week and now appears to have another wandering around as I found a (missed) open queen cell , plenty of eggs and brood but couldn't find any queens so left them to...

Has anyone used cream of tartar to invert syrup? Asking for a friend….

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Bees going nuts in the sunshine after the tropical downpours. Similar to @pargyle , lots of interesting pollen coming in. Heading to the IOW for a few days then back Friday for another round of vaping…

    I particularly liked Odin’s review : ‘all dead’ 😂😂😂

    Organic varroa treatments

Hmmmmm, ‘100% success rate’ looks like a ginormous red flag for starters!

    Butyric rodents

We made friends with our local Rentakill guy and he drops off several trays of the high strength stuff for £15…..

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Finished the vaping on all the hives and nucs at home today between the downpours. The bees were remarkably calm given the swirling dark clouds and threats of rain. My home bees do have a lovely temperament on the whole. One nuc showed some possible signs of hygienic behaviour - some brood...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Whizzed round the out apiaries with the InstaVap. What a brilliant bit of kit. Bees a bit stroppy and then it started to rain….,

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Did a mini extraction yesterday of 5 supers which yielded 95lbs of a nice golden honey. Just another 15 to do and will be my best harvest. Interestingly, the home hives have done better than those in the out apiaries which are right next to a nature reserve. Glad I didn’t leave it until today...

    Apivar

Ah thanks. Missed that thread. Thought that was the case but wanted to check as I also treated myself to a shiny new InstaVap recently.

    Apivar

On a similar topic..... does anyone here just use OA to treat for mites? I have ApilifeVar I was considering using this year for my autumn treatment but really can't be dealing with the faff of having separate supers & frames marked up for use with miticides. What i've done with OA in the past...

    Renewing/replacing comb without waste.

I’ve done that with a few frames and just added a couple of vertical bamboo skewers for extra support. The comb drawn was beautiful and very straight!

What's flowering as forage in your area

Left a patch of borage to develop and the bees are loving it.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Took the last supers off the out apiary. One really big colony and the bees came boiling out and whizzing around as soon as I took the first one off. I thought it was going to be a stingy day but they quickly settled down after a few puffs of smoke. Interestingly, I’ve removed more supers from...
